Thoroncir cries, “Elendil!” and charges forward to Gwaelur’s and Theogrim’s side, ready for whatever may emerge from the opening doors.

Oh great, here’s where the fun really begins, who wants to live forever anyway.

While the others are sorting themselves out behind me into formation, keep an eye out at the cross passages. Will get a couple of the explosive glass bullets ready to roll along the floor, so if anyone charges, they will get a bit of a surprise when they tread on them.

I missed an unarmoured orc? Let’s mark that one off on the calendar.

Twenty down, and none of us badly hurt. We seem to be banging this wasps’ nest very effectively. Also, if there are more on the way then we don’t need to go looking for further trouble. Be ready to fall back to the previous chamber where we had our first fight - we have a clear retreat from there if we need it. And I’ll begin singing loudly in Elvish just to encourage the nearby Orcs to come and get stuck in.

Mr DM, I said that I wanted some party members to carry my extra arrows, but didn’t get around to discussing who. Can we assume this got taken care of at a rest stop? Theogrim and Thoroncir would be favourites to carry a dozen each, assuming the encumbrance is largely irrelevant to either of them.

Stay together. Again prepare to greet newcomers with a missile salvo. We haven’t even needed to resort to magic yet (other than a cure).

If there’s time, Ghân uses 1 Goodberry on Theogrim. (He doesn’t see anyone else injured.)
(DM, please could you just put our injuries in the reports, so it’s even easier to follow? We don’t need to know how many hp orcs are down by  )

Ghân asks Gil-Gandel to swap places in the battle order, which puts Ghân (and Fang) in the middle, ready to cure any of the Fighters in front. (Provided Gil-Gandel is still be able to shoot over Gwaelur…)

Ghân is hardly carrying anything, so will happily carry a Quiver of Gil-Gandel’s spare arrows.

That’s a good point thinking about it. Once the next fight has engaged, I think I will be heading back at high speed to check that we do have a clear retreat and that we have not been surrounded from behind. I’m too small to fire over the top of the front rank.

Of course, if something big and nasty is at the front, it’s time for Plan B for Bomb in the face and then head off.

If there is banging on the barred door, it might be a good time to let the rest of the party know.

I really hope they haven’t decided to get round to the entrance we came through :frowning:

Ghân, thank you for your suggestion, but I will stay where I am for now, where I have the best field of fire. If Thoroncir needs help, either Renee can step up, or I will get out of your way, but you can reach Gwaelur and Theogrim easily from where you are. If any of our front rank are badly hurt, I can step in for a while and go to sword.

Thank you for carrying arrows for me.

Ghân: OK, that’s all fine by me.

Hearing Gil-Gandel, Thoroncir will break stride, sheath his sword, unlimber his longbow and nock an arrow. He will glance back to make sure that Renee is safe.

Being Invisible, Deor volunteers to make a quick check behind us, just to make sure that if something’s coming through that secret door, we’ll know about it.

Being also invisible and not having offensive spells that can be used in the next fight, Mulligan suggests Deor stays here while he goes and checks our escape route.

The secret door is hopefully wedged shut and not easily opened other than by us.

Ah! You’re back! I thought you were still ahead of us. Sneaky burrahobbits

Any reaction from the Orcs? Are they coming to get us, or do they appear to be stalling until reinforcements can arrive? If the latter, we should take the initiative.

Mulligan waits at the cross passages. Roughly 100’ to the right passage an orc ducks out and starts carefully approaching Mulligan, or at least the cross passages.

1 short and hopefully quiet whistle is aimed back at the double doors and the rest of the party. With luck Gil-Gandel should hear it and understand.

Keep an watching at the cross passages, get glass bullet ready to roll under Orc feet if the rest of the party don’t make it here.

I take it that rolling the bullet forwards will not remove the invisibility, will it?

Gil-Gandel hears Mulligan’s whistle and gets the party forward.

Mulligan retreats a short distance up the left passage as the orc comes up to where Mulligan was.

The orc just starts to shout as Gil-Gandel’s arrow drops him and Gwaelur rushes forward to slam his axe down upon his wind pipe.

It should not, but the orc might not step on it of course.

Excellent - he got off enough of a yell to perhaps attract attention, and not enough to tell the enemy anything useful. Everyone hush and let’s listen to hear if anyone else is coming.

I had better aim carefully then.

Gil-Gandel, If you don’t mind I will be going back to briefly check on our way out of here and make sure we are not cut off.

I hope not to be too long.

Happy Hunting.

I’m ready to skewer the first orc that shows its ugly face.

Shortly after Mulligan races back to check the 1st chamber, the double doors on the far end of the hall fly open and two orcs with crossbows step out and let loose as quickly as Brin, Gil-Gandel, and Thoroncir do.

One bolt hits Thoroncir for 4

Brin hits the left orc and Gil-Gandel the right. Thoroncir’s arrow follows shortly after and hits the injured orc that Gil-Gandel hit. Both orcs are dead.

Gwaelur who had stepped forwards and kneeled down enough to check left and right, jumps to his feet and steps back yelling, orcs from both sides.

Sounds like I will have to switch to melee soon. I might be able to drop one or two by bow, though, so I’ll keep that armed for now. I’ll guard the left side. If you give me one other fighter, and two fighters on the other side, that will allow us to guard both sides while Gil-Gandel (also a fighter) and the others take out targets of opportunity.
