Middle Earth FA63 D&D Game, the Second Adventure, Scouting Ered Lithui

We let the spiders be for now. I make no promises for some other day. If these were natural creatures I would not care one way or the other about them, but assuredly they have a drop of the blood of Ungoliant in them, and whatever qualms I may have about orcs most certainly do not apply to these.

No doubt they will feast on orc carrion in due course, but there is nothing we can do about that. That said, they will not be glad of dead meat and cold blood - it is not their preferred diet, so tales assure us.

But of course.

I need clarification, are you leaving off pursuing the orcs?

No, the idea is that we run straight out of the exit assuming the spider doesn’t want to fight, and pick up their trail as best we can - Gwaelur, Ghân, Fang and Gil-Gandel. The rest of the party are retiring to our campsite.

I’m “tail-end Charlie” as we go out - keeping a watch all around for any signs of this spider, and with Ghân’s spell to warn us if it’s not keeping its distance.

If Brin can give me directions, I will scout ahead to make sure we don’t run into anything. My eyes are better in the dark than his.

Gwaelur goes through the passage, Ghân follows with Fang nearby. Ghân realized that the spider is directly over his head and informs Gil-Gandel as much and hurries forward. …
Meanwhile the party is quickly scouring the chambers. What is being taken?

As noted earlier, Thoroncir has searched the bodies of all of the dead orcs and taken anything of interest. Perhaps Deor might Detect Magic on anything we find? We will not tarry, as Gil-Gandel said, but quickly search and then head out of the caves to our campsite ere night falls.

Ghân and Fang are following Gil-Gandel’s plan.
(Ghân can track in woodlands and Fang by scent.)

Anyone calls me a cutpurse is in trouble.

Don’t forget the large flaming sword, preferably wrapped up in an old cloak to keep safe.

Unfortunately, I’m clean out of spells for the day.

Let’s get out of this passage as fast as possible. I never thought I would say it, but I can’t wait to be out of this mountain!

[oog] no Gwaelur isn’t cowardly and running for cover, he is worried about Ghan who he has sworn to protect on this mission, and who he thinks (right or wrong) is most at risk from the spider. He is also anxious to catch the fleeing orcs.[/oog]

How far could the orcs have gotten?

“We know you are there, child of the Tree-devourer. Keep your distance! What becomes of your young ones when you have died on our swords?”

I’ll drink to that, Gwaelur. The orcs? I hope you’re able and willing to run far and fast.

It would be prudent to have an arrow cocked, I think. Starharp may like to talk to spiders, but they’re icky to me, and this one is too big to step on.

Agreed, but (forgive the nitpick) it’s “nocked.”

You’ve been spending too much time with the Elf

Tell me about it.

There is no reply to your words Gil-Gandel, do you follow your companions that are now departing?

I am assuming by your last post that I have past the danger zone, is this correct? If so, Gwaelur will notice the lack of response and ready his big 2 handed axe, just in case.

Ghan, I don’t know what kind of spells you have left, but you might want to get ready.

Yes, Gil-Gandel breaks into a sprint - the whole idea of being last out was that I’m the champion at catching up.

Ghân is still running Locate Animals, so if the Spider moves to attack, he’ll fire his blowpipe.
