What’s that coming over the hill.
Is it a monster?
Is it a monster?
Thank you so much for that, and now I’m going to have an earworm all day.
This is working out just fine thanks, and we’ll continue as we are. Abundant experience of playing Medieval: Total War persuades me that horse archers can make knights’ lives a misery as long as their ammo holds out, and that goes double for heavy infantry.
Looks to be running fine from here as well.
If anything looks like it needs attention or assistance, speed up and help out.
Looks like some orcs suddenly falling aSleep might help rout the enemy- hit some of the Shaman’s guards that are attacking Gil-Gandel as a priority, but really just Sleep any enemies in range.
I will continue to fight hard. I don’t see what else I could do in this situation.
Deor follows a wave of riders in and cast his sleep spell as Brin fires at any orc getting close. Deor sleeps 9 orcs and Brin drops 2.
Moose has taken a detour and then made a beeline for the Shaman. Moose knocks an orc to the side in his pursuit and takes two slashes for 7 points. Moose hits the Shaman for 28 points on the charge and sends him off the mortal plane.
The 6 large orcs scream in anguish as the Shaman dies. They charge after Moose. Gil-Gandel happily takes this opportunity to hit one in the back and then his leg. His third arrow missed however.
Near the front Theogrim has come about for another charge and heads for the Hunter/killers, Thoroncir on his swifter horse lances a lightly armored orc out of the way, killing it. 12 riders charge in line with Theogrim, letting him be the point. Theogrim takes a shot for 9 points and another arrow is stopped by the chain barding of his horse. Theogrim takes another 5 points for 14 total as he fights off the poison. The Hunter/killers is hit for 28 dropping it. Another rider takes two arrows and drops from his horse. 5 of the riders hit 5 of the Hunter/killers, dropping 1 and injuring seriously 4.
Up front Gwaelur hits his foe twice dropping him.
The 12 men exchange blows and get relief as two groups of riders charge in, one from each flank. Three more Uruks are down and one man and one horse are down.
Many orcs have fallen on the field to lance and swords from horseback.
Ghân sees an opportunity to entangle a group of orcs and gets into position. Mulligan tags along to cover him. Ghân entangles 13 orcs and Mulligan happily hits one just outside this area for 6 points dropping it.
Renee keeps a very low profile for now, out of sight and out of mind.
At this point and Orc cries “Freedom!” and others answer, “Death to the Uruks! Death to the Uruks!”
Thoroncir, pleased by how the battle has gone so far, closes up with Theogrim and looks about to see if any foes remain on their feet. He will keep a watchful eye for treachery by any of the green-banded orcs.
I will set off after the party chasing Moose and thin them out a bit. Also make a mental note of any felled Orc archers in case I start running low on ammunition! Avoid other enemies for now - in general our tough fighters seem to be acquitting themselves very well indeed.
Each of the 10 remaining Hunter Killer suddenly has four orcs with green headbands on grappling them. The other twenty form up to defend against the other orcs if they try to help. They are calling out to help rebel and gain their freedom to the East away from the Tall Men.
Theogrim gives a fierce and grim grin and his escort of Thoroncir and 11 other riders charge the Hunter Killers. Theogrim, Thoroncir and 10 of the riders all hit. The Hunter Killers are no more. The Green Orcs are happy to rip out the throats and eyes of the Uruk-Hai elite.
A four orcs struggle slowly out of the entangle spell , they are ridden down by a group of 6 riders. The six large spear carrying orcs now break into a run from the battle but Moose bashes one from behind killing it.
Gil-Gandel finishes off the one he already put two arrows in with another two arrows and as they think they might be winning free of the large Mêlée, Caramir and his four Rangers seemingly rise up out of nowhere and make short work of them.
The Cavalry cheer and 28 blow past the remaining Uruks up front. The remaining 18 ride down the orcs not wearing green.
Deor sleeps another groups of 7 that tried to form a defensive position.
Mulligan drops another one that was charging at Ghân.
Brin shoots and hits another two orcs.
Gwaelur has finished off an injured Uruk and sees that none survive now.
Ghân heads to the horse that dropped with Fang escorting him.
Renee has reached the man in the camp that dropped and is checking his condition.
There are only about 18 orcs left not in green. Two horses and two men are down and a dozen men are injured from lightly to major. Seven horses are injured.
Three of the Green Orcs are also dead or down.
Seven orcs lay down their weapons and the other 11 a swiftly killed. Brin shot one.
Renee does a cure light on the down man and tells orders one of the other to bandage his wounds and runs off to the next downed man.
Ghân uses a cure light on the downed horse and feeds it two good berries, soothing it. A rider calms it and begins grooming the injured animal.
Another rider lets Ghân know it is too late for the other horse, it is too far gone.
The cavalry is ordering the orcs to form up out of the way and await Ghân, Caramir and Gil-Gandel.
Renee sees to the last man; he is dead beyond her skills and powers to recall. “The wound is too deep and the poison too deadly.”
Lets us see to the wounded.
There are 16 sleeping orcs and 9 entangled.
Caramir bellows, “A great victory, my complements to you all”.
Wonderful! Well played!
I’m going to go run around and hand out the Goodberries that I’m still carrying from yesterday to men (first) and horses (second) who are injured. Keep Folca up high and watching for any more surprises.
The Sea-Knight raises his lance high and shouts with joy, “Well done, my friends, well done! We have struck a mighty blow for Gondor today. And my thanks to our orc allies, who played such a key role in overthrowing their former scourges. Where are their boasts now, they who once lorded over you? Vanquished they are, and fairly too.”
Mulligan rolls eyes skyward and smiles at the exclamations being shouted.
So, what was the figure on the hill then and do they need a hand in ensuring any prisoners are securely tied up?
The winds are still whipping hard, too hard for Folca and too hard for long range shooting which mightily aided your cause for the small loss of Folca’s high guard.
I don’t know about a figure on the hill, but the figure coming warily from the east was just a glimpse of the Rangers that Folca was lucky to catch. Deor guessed correctly it was Caramir or Riglo but was surprised they were seen.
A few of the Orcs in Green beg for help in rescuing/escorting the rest of their tribe away from the mountain. “Only 60 remain inside and a few runts. On the bright side, all of our Uruk-Hai save one were out here. As soon as we give the word, they should be ready to march out with some small treasure, a store of rations and the goods of the dead Uruk. We think pursuit would be swift and fearsome. The Shaman that was pincushioned and Moosilated was our oppressor but not the chief Shaman. Only a few Hunter/Killers remain at the Chief’s lair, however he has a strong force of Uruk-Hai and large armored orcs.”
Again translated to cleaner Westron as it is tiresome to right in ‘proper’ orc speech.
Thoroncir is all for pressing on as our orc allies request, but will defer to the judgment of Prince Caramir and our Elf-captain, Gil-Gandel.
As long as we are in good order, I thoroughly approve - and moreover, we should share any resulting plunder with the Orcs of the Green Scarf, for they will need something to allow them to resume their peaceful life in the East.
Man, Orc, Elf, Dwarf, Wose and Hobbit all fighting a common enemy, Elessar will be proud. Maybe there is hope for all races after all.
I see no reason not to lend a hand to our, dare I say it, allies. The sooner, the better as well, methinks.
Ghan, I would like to apologise for doubting your plan and your compassionate heart towards them.
I quite agree that these orcs should be given aid and a share of any plunder. They have fought well and have give this dwarf pause in his considerations of the orc. Perhaps I sometimes judge too hasitly.
Moose looking confused which when you think about it is fairly impressive as who knew you could read the moods of a Moose, “Kill Orcs?”
For any additional activities we will be low on spells again as Renee has used all of hers, the last cure light heals Theogrim for 12 and first aid and herbs get him to full.
You’ll notice that the Rangers are all assisting in treating the wounded and following Renee’s order. (She is obviously much younger than most of them.)
I need **Ghân ** to check in, I think Moose is the only other party member injured.
Thoroncir will dismount and help Renee, if she needs it.
If I could get Renee and Mulligan’s assistance, I’d like to take a closer look at what the Shaman looked like and what his equipment looked like, since there was clearly some kind of binding spell between him and his bodyguards.
