Midweek Book puzzles IV

I’ve been away for a couple of weeks and haven’t posted any of these so to make up for it I’ve made 5 smaller ones for you.

P.S. Even though they’re easier than the ones I normally post they will probably still go in the book I’m compiling. If you could tell me whether you liked them and if they were too easy/tough/whatever I’d really appreciate it. Cheers.

  1. Splitting the Alphabet.

I have divided the letters of the alphabet according to a special criteria.

Group 1: Q E R T Y I A D F G H J L B N M
Group 2: W U O P S K Z X C V

How have I divided the letters?

.

2)Just for Laughs

The following paragraph is written in cockney rhyming slang. What you have to do is simply decipher what the hell’s going on.

For those who are unfamiliar Cockney rhyming slang works like this:

Example. I walked down the Frog and Toad
Translation. I walked down the Road

Some cockney Rhyming slang can fit straight into a sentence and not be noticed so I’ve highlighted all the rhyming slang.

I woke up on the pete tong side of uncle ted because I was spotted dick with a pain in my loaf. I had an appointment with my dover harbour to cut my barnet fair so I left the Pope in Rome and stopped off at the Cab Rank to withdraw some Bangers and Mash. I then took a sherbert dab to the dover harbour and after he had sorted out my barnet I went to a Riff Raff. I ate some Sexton Blake and some Uncle fred & Stammer and Stutter and some Ten furlongs(tricky one). I then left and went to the Rub a dub dub to meet my China Plates and got Oliver Twist on Winona Rider. I then staggered Pope in Rome, and fell asleep on the dancing bears

So, what did I do today?

.

Sorry about the bolding. The Cockney Rhyming story should look like this

Answer to # 5:
Nautical
Wonder
Attitude
Foresight
Survive
Retaliate
Asinine
Attention

Though you could add “basics” and “traipse”. I can’t think of a word for the other one.

I think I got most of these.

Loaf I assume is loaf of bread = head. Can’t figure out the others that you missed, though…

Well done Biotop, that’s the right word order.

Protesilaus. Nearly there. All the ones you’ve got so far are right and loaf is loaf of bread = head. 10 furlongs is very indirect, you have to go through a length conversion to actually get anywhere. Also, barnet is short for barnet fair which, I notice, you’ve already got.

Keep trying!
