Sunday Morning Puzzle # 23

This week’s puzzle is, surprisingly enough, a set of movie titles. The titles have been broken into “doublets”, and the doublets alphabetized. For example, “Sunday Puzzle” would be broken into SU ND AY PU ZZ LE, and then alphabetized thus: AY LE ND PU SU ZZ.

Prior to their being broken into doublets, the movie titles were adjusted according to the puzzle’s theme.

Problem: Some of the movie titles had an odd number of letters, and therefore could not be broken completely into doublets. When this occurred, an extra letter was inserted somewhere in the title so that it would have an even number of letters.

Mitigating Circumstance: The extra letters, when read properly, will spell the name of a movie figure who might have been helpful in solving the puzzle.

What are the titles? Who is the movie figure?

Once again I am impressed with your puzzle skills. I was wondering if anyone would get this one, but I can always count on your deductive talents, it seems.

This time of year it gets real difficult to write a decent puzzle because of everything that’s happening. Summer’s just a busy time. If I can’t get around some weeks to writing a quality puzzle, I’d love to have a stand-in…
