I think you guys can pencil me in (lightly) for this one. It would be rude of me to miss a doper convention that’s scheduled for a day after my birthday, wouldn’t it? Springfield is about 6 or 6.5 hours from Toledo; that doesn’t sound too bad. At least if the weather doesn’t crap on me.

Well, by the time we show up at 7:30, it’ll be on its way to full-fledged bar, so the smoke levels will be rising. I don’t think it has a non-smoking section. I’m open for other suggestions, but for the type of atmosphere we want (variety of booze with low noise), I’m at a loss.

Ok, I didn’t realize we were scheduled so late. Yeah, in looking back at the thread, it’s all there, but I guess I wasn’t paying attention. I guess one question I have is: Do we want to make it that late? Are people going to want a heavy dinner of horseshoe at that hour? And is anybody from out of town planning to be around sooner?

I think it’s a good idea that it be that late; some of the attendees are coming in from several hours away. It would suck out loud if they had to drag their hides out of bed at some godawful hour to drive in here.

I think perhaps the earlier attendees might catch the shoes, and then turn to cocktails and engaging conversation (or chugging beer and rousing verses of “Lydia the Tattooed Lady”, depending on the group) for the rest of the night.

I think I’m probably the farthest away. I was just checking some driving distances, looks like 415 miles ± 25. I guess that sounds like about 7 hours. I was figuring on hitting town in the middle of the afternoon, 3 or 4ish and finding a cheap hotel. That means leaving Toodleydoo about 8am or so. I’m sure I’ll be hongry when I arrive, so youse guys can make plans for anytime ya want. I’ll either grab something with ya if you meet earlier for dinner or just warm up some canned goods under the hood of the car.
Looks like it’s about a 4 hour drive for me. I can’t see any reason that I wouldn’t be there. Is the Super 8 anywhere near the place where we’re meeting? I have to be pretty cheap, but I also don’t want to be driving all over the place.
Oh yeah, I’m a smoker - I think Unclebeer is, too. Are we going to be getting dirty looks from the rest of you guys the whole time?

Well, not from me, Val. Majority of my friends smoke. The Super 8 is not terribly far away, but it will take some driving. Between David and I, we should be able to come up with reasonably simple directions. I don’t think you can be one place in Springfield and be more than 20 minutes from any other place in Springfield. And if you use Chicago’s surface streets, Springpatch will be a cinch.
And, may I say, cool! UncleB and Val both mostly confirmed? This thing’s gonna kick ass.

As for smoking…I’d prefer non, but I can handle it. And for Unc and VB - fair warning. I’ll be pulling out the inhaler, but I honestly DO NOT MIND smokers. I just know what aggravates the ol’ asthma.
