Midwest Meeting-Springfield, IL

Incidentally, presuming I stick around as long as everybody else, I can also act as designated driver. I’ll be driving myself anyway and am not the drinker I used to be in college.

David-

I do hope you are not going to reveal your beliefs in the paranormal. Now that would be truly funny.

That it is unwise to be heedless ourselves while we are giving advice to others, I will show in a few lines. – Phædrus –

Nope, nothing paranormal – though definitely not normal, either.

My parents, brothers, wife, and I were going through the tomb. Suddenly, we hear a phone ringing. And ringing. And ringing. (This was a “regular” phone, not a cell phone.) My mother and I look at each other and one of us (can’t recall which) deadpans, “He’s not going to answer.”

This got us all going on a host of related things, such as possible answering machine messages. “I’m sorry, I can’t come to the phone right now because I’m dead…” We’re laughing – trying to stifle it as much as possible – and people are just staring at us. It was made all the worse because we had noticed a sign outside before entering saying something to the effect, “Out of respect for the Lincoln family, please keep your voice down” (ok, not quite, but close). And here there’s a phone ringing in the Tomb!

Apparently, there is some sort of office in the Tomb itself, and that’s where the phone was ringing.

Hi. Hate to inject a down note into this conversation, but I wonder if anyone has been looking at the “Phaedrusaire” thread? Someone named Baretto makes a rather chilling remark about meeting David in Springfield. So maybe I’m just paranoid, but has anyone given thought to security at this little get-together?

I don’t know what you can do, but I would hate to see any disruption of the event.

And if you want a good bar, I recommend the Brewhaus.

What is D’Arcy’s anyway? A bar? A restaurant? I don’t mean to be picky, but my lovely 26 year old boyfriend Jophiel is lucky enough he doesn’t have to worry about if it’s a bar or not, but I do  I’m only a little 20 year old chica, and I’d like to say we’ll be there too, but there ain’t no way I could get into a bar

When are you going to realize being normal isn’t necessarily a good thing?

Oh, and UncleBeer…don’t worry about convincing Jophiel  I’ll drug him and drag him along if I have to

When are you going to realize being normal isn’t necessarily a good thing?

Don’t you listen to the mortal sage known as Homer? ‘Beer is for daddys and kids with fake ID’.

Wow.

Okay, new list, simply for my purposes:

Six Inches from Confirmed:
[ul][li]Flypsyde[/li][li]Falcon[/li][li]AuraSeer[/li][li]Omni[/li][li]Val[/li][li]David B[/li][li]Guadere[/li][li]rastahomie[/li][li]UncleBeer[/li][li]boli[/ul][/li]

[ul][li]android209[/li][li]Jophiel[/li][li]Talera[/li][li]elelle[/li][li]lovelee[/li][li]ChrisCTP[/ul][/li]
Alright, I think I may need some help from David and rasta (where the hell’s he been, anyway?). D’Arcy’s is probably too small to hold us all, so I need another suggestion for an eatery/drinkery. I kinda wanted something with a bit of Springfield atmosphere (as much as there is such a thing), but I think now we may have to go with a chain like Friday’s or Chili’s. David, if you can think of anything, please let me know. And Talera, if we do, by chance, keep it at D’Arcy’s, you should have no problems. They don’t card at the door 'cause they serve food. You should be good, as long as you don’t try to order any booze; hell, if you don’t look 14, you could probably even get away with that.

Friday people-gimme an idea of who’s coming and when. I think, from what I’ve heard, that you’ll be here early enough for us to grab a bite and a movie.

Accomodations-Flyp Arms is full for Saturday night (assuming Omni doesn’t spend the night passed out on the pool table at the bar), with one couch/futon available for Friday night. Dunno if this helps anybody, but there ya are.

Tourism-sorry, but I’m bored to death of the Lincoln sites. If anyone wants to get together with David, mail him. Anyone else who’s in town Saturday afternoon but doesn’t dig the Lincoln scene can hang with me, ya hep cats.

Late Night Tourism (Bar Crawl)-I’m guessing this will start around 10:30 or 11. I’ve picked a relatively clean, nice bar that shouldn’t scare anyone (and no moist floors, Falc). If you guys don’t like it, we can most certainly hit another, but I warn you, one of the places I hit every so often just started serving bottles and cans again about 2 years ago, because there were too many fights. Another uses an old pole from the local Deja Vu as a bar rail (but I think that may be a local UL). And the original has the added bonus of being only a few blocks from my place.

Again, any concerns, post or mail me.

Uhhh, that should be the original bar I mentioned is only a few blocks from my place. The original Deja Vu pole is on the other side of town. Sorry for the misunderstanding.

I’ll be there Friday night, Flypper. When…who the hell knows. I’m leaving DC between 9 and 9:30, which SHOULD put me into Springfield around 7ish. I think. Honestly, it depends on how fast I drive and how many times I need to stop.

And awww…no moist floors? I’m touched!

Clark…you’ll notice I asked Sir Aura to bring his sword. I think we’re covered. grin

Yeah, and my PT job has a coupla pole-arms hung up on the walls as decoration. Weapons are not a problem. Heh, gamers are good for somethin’.

To make sure we include everybody and avoid any potential problems with weirdos (well, other weirdos), I suggest that everybody e-mail me and I’ll put together a list for discussing this off-board. We can still post here for general stuff and reminders, but we can plan the details in e-mail.

Flyp: What about The Spot? I haven’t been there yet, but doesn’t it serve as both a bar and have all sorts of evil games to take our money as well?

hey, yo, are moderate posters who are college kids from macomb, who maybe wanna split a cheap ass hotel room welcome? i think if i can get insurance for my car i might be able to make it…and i did see mention of alcohol and smoking, which are 2 of my favorite things…

Sure, if you can find somebody to split a room with. I haven’t seen anybody else trying to split one, so I don’t know how much luck you’ll have.

and rasta (where the hell’s he been, anyway?).

I’ve been lurking. Sorry.

Seeing as, prior to 2 weeks ago, I hadn’t lived anywhere near Springfield for almost 10 years, I have absolutely no idea where we could have a get-together with a local flavor, as well as reasonable quiet and a profound lack of urine/vomitus on the floors (oh, and that serves horseshoes).

Is NorbAndy’s still open?

How about Vic’s? Either the original location or the new South Side one are fine with me.

The BarrelHead (is that the name of the place?)?

Just tossing out ideas here, fellas. I’m not much of a bar patron. Give me a latté and a cookie at Barnes & Noble any day.

Hey David B, give feel free to keep me updated via e-mail (for security purposes, of course).

Let me cast the most vile of aspersions on going to Fridays or Chili’s for the more festive portion of the evening. The drinks are damn expensive, and weak, they generally give loud groups a hard time (relative to primarily a bar), and there will be too many youths around so that some of us may want to censor ourselves. I’m OK with eating and running, I generally like their food, but I’d perfer going to a more bar oriented place. Just my opinion.

I’m going on the record as saying I don’t care where we go, as long as it has food and liquor. I shall defer the specifics to people who actually know the area.

I didn’t know that Byron had made a post in here… I dunno if that means I have “permission” or not. Generally, he ignores things he doesn’t want to deal with…hmm.

Anyone care if I bring a friend (frequent lurker, never posted.)???

“…being normal is not necessarily a virtue. It rather denotes a lack of courage.”

At the risk of tipping off any potential stalkers, I’m thinking we’re going to move it to the Spot, for dinner and the carousing. It was the bar I had in mind in the earlier post; kind of an entertainment-complex type of establishment, with random video games and a bar. I’m not totally sure if the restaurant they had there is still operational (they put in a Funny Bone comedy club a while back, and I haven’t been in to see the layout), but I’ll check. If it is still there, then this place is the answer to our prayers. I’m surprised I didn’t think of it before. The restaurant, the bar, and the comedy club are all in the same building. The bar is open 'til 3, and if we get there early enough, Talera may be able to sneak about and stay in after they kick the underagers out.

Plus, it’s within stumbling distance of my place.

Chris, I’m sure everyone would encourage you to bring friends. Omni would most likely prefer single female ones, but I think any friends at all would be most welcome.
