Mike Pence in 2024-- please tell me it's not happening

Pence wants to take us back to the 50’s. The 1850’s.

Some interesting historical context here:

He can’t possibly be so deluded as to believe he has even a snowball’s chance. It’ll be interesting to watch his campaign to see what he thinks he’s actually trying to accomplish.

Maybe he’s seeking revenge for having to spend four years licking Trump’s spittle.

Based on this, it could be that he’s having an attack of principle, that everything else aside he knows another Trump presidency would be a disaster, so he’s burning what remains of his capital in an effort to damage the Trump name for at least a fraction of otherwise likely voters. He knows he himself has no shot, but if he can suppress at least a small percentage of GOP turnout in a close election, it could make a difference.

I dunno. Grasping at straws here, thinking the man has a political conscience. But it’s either that, or he’s totally delusional.

All of these jerkoffs are in a rough spot, or would be in one if GOP voters cared about rationality and contradiction at all, standing on the twin principles of “I will support the eventual GOP candidate” and “Donald Trump doesn’t deserve to be President again.”

Here’s another take:

I caught a bit of that. My initial impression was that Pence’s body language was awful. He looked so uncomfortable there, like he really didn’t want to be there.

From what I saw, his plan seems to be, “Denounce Trump for January 6th, then spout out all the usual Republican Talking Points”. Trashing Biden for his spending, while ignoring the Trump Tax Cuts that produced a huge deficit with no benefits to the economy, that sort of thing.

I was thinking Velcro Fly, complete with removable insect.

Which is of course rich after these dweebs like Haley and Pence worked for him.

I wonder what kind of dirt he’s being threatened with to make him take such a “courageous” stand.

He used to be my governor.

I’m voting for “delusional” here. Possibly convinced he’s on some sort of mission from God.

Naw, he’s always like that.

Or maybe Pence has finally grasped that Trump sent a mob to kill him on Jan 6 and he views it as a matter of survival. If Trump wins again don’t you think he’ll target Pence for venom and bile?

Well, I watched the VP debates, the one with The Fly, and didn’t get the same impression. He was stiff, but didn’t look as immediately awful. Maybe they doped him up before, or something, but he was definitely different.

New one today:

Town hall meeting yesterday where he tries for a folksy grandpa tone urging DOJ to drop Trump indictments.

So Pence is attacking Trump as evil one minute and the next minute he’s calling for dropping investigations into Trump’s wrongdoing.

Wishy meet Washy. I don’t think that’s gonna sell real well to the red meat crowd.

I wonder how much money you can raise, and keep, by campaigning ineffectually? True campaigning is hard grueling work all day every day for a year or two. If you can rake $30M by just phoning it in for a few months then admitting the People have Spoken and you’re not it (this time), that might be better work than he could otherwise get.

Until 4 years later when he can try the trick again.

Pence: ‘President Trump also demanded that I choose between him and the Constitution… I chose the Constitution, and I always will.’

Trump supporters: ‘You betrayed the Constitution by refusing to use your enumerated powers to return suspicious Electoral College returns to utterly corrupt States.’ And ‘No, he told you to send fraudulent election results back to state legislatures for further review as allowed under the Constitution.’

Let’s all come back in a year, at which time we’ll know who does.

(makes popcorn)

p.s. A few months ago, I heard a liberal Democratic woman who was in Congress (don’t remember who) say that Mike Pence will later be known as an American hero, for refusing to back down on the 6th. That’s about the only good thing I could say about him myself, beyond that he obviously loves his family.

I wonder what his response would be to one of his children coming out as LTGTQ - some evangelicals realize the error of their ways (to be clear, not the child), others disown them. Doesn’t seem to be much to predict which way someone goes.

His delivery defending Trump yesterday (specifically attacking the DoJ) was so understated that I literally thought he was going to fall asleep in the middle of a sen
