Well, I have to admit that my experience with Michael Reagan is limited to around the time of the 2000 elections. But, on the basis of that, I’d have to say that if that is what conservatives consider to be a “non-wacko”, they are pretty generous with the term. Reagan was publishing stuff creditted to an engineer in Georgia who claimed that the vote in Palm Beach County, far from showing that Buchanan got some accidental votes, actually showed he got too few votes and this must have been a Democratic conspiracy of double-punching some ballots that otherwise should have gone to Buchanan (or something like that). Needless to say, this engineer’s article relied on…how do we put this nicely…complete and utter fabrication of data.
Well, Sam Donaldson is a little whacko. Not in his political views, but have you ever seen him try to talk off the cuff about something? He rambles like it’s going out of style.

“I don’t think we should have war in Iraq because it’ll destabilize the Middle East, which would be bad. But Middle Eastern food is good. You know, I went to dinner at a Middle Eastern restaurant the other day. I had the hummus, which as you know is made out of chickpeas. It was good, but I don’t know why we subsidize chickpea farmers. You’d think they could make enough money with the prices they charge for the hummus. Now I don’t disagree that Sadaam Hussein is a bad man and a bully, because he certainly is, but is war the only way to stop him? I remember when I was growing up, I was picked on by a bully, until finally I had enough and punched him in the nose. So maybe it’s like that with Sadaam and only violence will solve the problem. I just don’t know.”
