You know, a lot of people really love to cook. My grandfather was a marvelous cook. He had more hair than Tim, but otherwise looked quite like him. People enjoy other people enjoying their food. It feels nice to be complimented on a meal you prepared. My grandfather wouldn’t even eat with us since he did a lot of tasting while he prepared these delicious Cuban dishes, so he’d just watch us and be ready to give more if requested, beaming with pleasure.
I won about 3 pumpkin pie contests at work. We had the contest every Thanksgiving season. I did not make up the recipe. I just found a Kraft recipe and did a good job of preparing it.
I am not sure how one could ever think the way a person looks could play any part in their ability and/or desire to cook well though. That is a bit baffling.
Will she read these honest assessments of her posting style and try to change?
I have doubts.
Blogs (or if you prefer, online newsletters) are alive and well - for instance on Substack. There are numerous popular ones, with people willing to pay subscription fees to read them, allowing their authors to make thousands of dollars a year (the most successful ones have hauled in millions).
Substacks can be started at no cost and maintained with free subscriptions. A lot of the top Substacks involve political and anti-science ranting, but there are also successful ones that are genuinely informative or just entertaining.
Hmm, i hadn’t thought of substacks as being blogs, because they are usually focused on some topic, you know, a newsletter, not a general blog. But i suppose many blogs have a focus, too.
Substacks might be home to a lot of anti-science rants, but the top substack is a left-leaning news summary, and “your local epidemiologist” publishes on substack. I think when you have a collection of unrelated stuff, you will find stuff of every political stripe.

An extremely annoying, irritating (literally) insect that jumps on to your calf or ankle from grass and chomps (then liquifies and digests your skin), which then itches maniacally., for days if not two weeks.
She’ll be posting again within 5 days. She has threatened to leave several times and has only made it a few days. My objection to her posts is that they are rambling and full of nothing.
I d say rambling posts full of nothing is the hallmark of miscellaneous personal shit posters must regurgitate on a regular basis. IMHO too.
Personally I’d think @Beckdawrek would be a wonderful addition to the mmp-er threads.
The irony of a thread focused on the foibles of one particular person, populated by a legion of people complaining that this person is too absorbed with their own foibles, is rich.
I find every one of you to be annoying.

This board has always been militant about fighting ignorance – or at least, that has been the rallying cry for pushing a quarter century now.
And yet, for some inane reason, Beck seems to get a pass for every fucking stupid thing she posts and at over 36 thousand posts in 7 scant years, she’s posted a lot of stupid things. Some are mildly stuid, like her endless “bad bad bad” threads that say nothing, communicate nothing, imply nothing, and ask for nothing. Some of her stupidity is much worse, like her misogyny. She somehow gets a pass for all of this. Like @CairoCarol says, she’s pretty much treated as if she’s a venerated saint around these parts.
Credit where credit is due: Beck’s ongoing health misadventures make for some entertaining and, frankly, quite informative reading. As A DMII with kidney issues myself, I read her kidney posts with some interest, although I still don’t know who the fuck Ivy is. I watched my mother spend 4 yeras activly dying from cancer while living in a small jerkwater town and when I read about her endless trevails slogging through her local health care system, I can commiserate.
However, I quit reading her posts when I realized what an entitled misogynist she is. A misogynist in the traditional sense of the word: she apparently believes that women shouldn’t have ownership over their sexuality and further believes sex workers should not be allowed around children.
She returned multiple times in that thread, arguing that anyone who would want to (or feel the need to) make porn isn’t teacher material, implying that someone who makes porn shouldn’t be allowed around children.
She’s also noted in other threads that she’s never held down a job or had to work for a living. She’s noted that she went to college but knew she could never be a teacher because the pay sucks (!!). She’s wrote about how she simply inherited her dad’s estate of rental properties and that’s why she’s been as comfortable as she is.
(Really, everyone should read through that teacher porn thread. Beck drops her folksy grandma facade for a bit and, much like the Other Mother in Coraline, the real Beck comes out. It’s a long thread but well worth reading in its entirety.)
And, as Carol again notes, the very few times she receives any pushback on the innate drivel she spews all over the board she plays the victim, argues that everyone is being mean to her (like she did yesterday in the ATMB thread), and / or asks the mods to shut the thread down so other posters can’t continue to push back (like she did in the teacher porn thread). She’s suffers from a sense of entitlement and shares opinions that, if she was any other poster, would engender laughs and derision from most of the posters on this board.
Yes, she’s allowed to have her opinions, as is everyone on this board. She should also expect to be held accountable when she expresses opinions that are toxic or harmful. Why she never has is a mystery to me.
I’m sure the mods would allow her to advertise her bad, bad, bad blog on here to start her readership.

Honestly the way some of y’all allow yourselves to wallow in anger and irritation over the musings of another member (there are many apparently causing bunched up panties) you claim to ignore is startling. Let it go darling.
I vaguely remember a thread where a number of delusional posters insisted that Stephen Colbert was trawling the SDMB to steal politically themed jokes. Clearly, the only way for him and his writing team to craft so many monologues is to mine the best and brightest minds here on the Dope.
No one here is objecting to her musings. At worst they say they are inane and ignore them.
We are pitting her holier-than-thou attitude when she expresses her opinions. I’m Beck and I’m right and all of you are hurtful, spiteful beasts that are ganging up on me. Please close this thread now that I’ve had MY say. Her posts in the teacher porn thread were extremely judgmental and implied that teachers should not be allowed to have the right to make life choices that every other profession has because BECK HAS DEEMED IT SO according to her stunted morality. And it seems that’s not the only thread she does this in.
And of course the sub-pitting of those that call out everyone else that does the exact same thing and says they’re worse than Hitler but when Beck does it, awwwww she’s just being Beck.
Beck is like that grandmother in a movie sitting on her porch in Smalltown, USA being all folksy with the main character promising to bake her some rhubarb crumble but as the lead walks away the camera zooms in on her eyes and the ominous music begins and you know there is considerable hated laying underneath that facade.
Wow. That is eerily similar to what Beck has posted when people call her out. Like almost verbatim.
The most egregious example was when she went on a tirade about how bad things only happen to children whose moms are horrible people that go for smoke breaks or to do shots in the kitchen while their kid is chewing on tide pods.
Wow? What of it? And there you go acting like what she or any pittee writes is important enough to you to trigger a response.
