Milwaukee Bucks performance art ‘boycott’

It’s basically their hypocrisy. Pretending they’re taking a bold stance on social justice in the USA. But, they endlessly pander to China. They ain’t boycotting a game no matter what happens there.

You can buy NBA merchandise with social justice themes.

In the end, money printer still goes brrrrrrrrr

The NBA isn’t a monolith. The league and the players have different interests and, and the players are going to have different values amongst themselves as well. Who is being hypocritical?

What’s wrong OP? Afraid to post this in the Pit where it belongs?

So you don’t want them performing this way, you want them performing another way?

I honestly don’t know what I would as an NBA player. And that assumes that most of the players care. Maybe they do, but I kinda doubt it.

But I would be angry at something pointless like this. It’s getting to wear pink for breast cancer level. The game gets played tomorrow or whatever.

It’s a sports thread, not a good pit topic since I doubt anyone outside of sports fans care.

You would be angry… if what? If you were a player? THEY chose to strike. It appears they had a team meeting about it.

I’ve been in team meetings at work when I’ve been told what the consensus was when the meeting began. And, make the argument that we will all make more money by selling a second round of social justice merchandise and I could go along with it.

I’m glad we’ve got our own NBA insider here who knows how it all played out.

I have never been in a meeting like that. It’s possible that your workplace is unusually dysfunctional.

It must suck to work there.

When he takes a break from knowing the hearts and minds of the Boston Bruins players better than they do themselves.

Why would you think your extremely limited personal experience was indicative of every other team meeting? Are you now or have you ever been a professional athlete, by the way?

The Milwaukee Brewers just announced they’re sitting out their game tonight against the Reds.

Good for the Brewers! I hope the Reds’ response is as classy as the Magic’s was.

Yup, the Reds agreed to sit out too. And now the Seattle Mariners have decided to sit out tonight against the Padres.

Good for these athletes. Sending a message that everything is not okay in society, and we’re not going to carry on as if it was, is very appropriate for the moment.

It’s taken a lot of them 4 years to catch up to Mr. Kapernick, but better late than never.

And none of them are day laborers so the money all works out in the end

What is your argument? Only people without privilege should protest because it’s not meaningful otherwise?

So they can afford to sit out a game. There are still other consequences, like backlash from people on the internet complaining that their sole purpose is to entertain them.
