Minecraft question: In the clouds.

What is the most efficient way to build a tower (or clear tree foliage or suspend a cobblestone four-sided torch) waaaaaay high up in the air?

I’ve mostly used a two block stair-step sort of thing but have recently decided that a 4 block square scaffold can prevent stupid falling deaths. Neither of these building methods has let me maneuver around a four sided block way up in the air. Nor have I made it passed the clouds.

So-- how do you build your spires?

When I was trying to build the washington monument I had something like a 20x20 base and just installed stairs along the inside. I built a water pit in the middle so that I could jump down instead of walking all the way around.

Doesn’t the sneak function prevent falling deaths?

If it’s near your spawn and you don’t mind dying, you can build a 1x1 by jumping and laying blocks underneath your feet when you’re in the air. It can go rather quick once you have the rhythm down. Lay a pond down below as mentioned if you want to get down again, just make sure you can aim okay.
