You do realize they have no room in the back seat? They’re essentially a three-person car - two in the front and one lying sideways across the back. I’ve checked them out at the mall (we have a Gigantic Frickin’ Mall here, and they drive all sorts of cars right into it and park them; there are five or six scattered throughout the first floor lobbies at any given time). I don’t know anything about how they run, I just know they’re tiny. They don’t let you test-drive the cars in the mall.
Some really cute girl in my apartment complex has one now. I haven’t been able to stop her and ask how she likes it or even get a good look at it yet, though.
I’m in Dallas, so I guess there is some place around here that has them…I’ll let you know what I hear from her if I can ever find her again
I did read somewhere that the top version has some serious power and it is a BMW offshoot, right? Sounds good to me and I think they’re cool as hell.
I’m waiting for Ford to put out an SVT Thunderbird! That would be a sweet machine. <drool>
BTW, it was reported this week that BMW finally is going to have a Texas dealership. One. In San Antonio. I’m not sure when they are going to beginning selling them, but BMW got the state license to sell Minis through that dealer.
Interesting, as there at least four of them in my neighborhood here in Houston (including one with a Union Jack paint job and a homemade “For Sale” sign in the window).
There are also a couple of “real” Minis in the neighborhood, and a comparison is staggering - the new ones appear to be twice the size of the originals.
BTW, the reason that BMW isn’t selling them in Texas is because the state wanted a list of dealers that would be selling them before issuing the license. BMW wanted to just provide a list of dealers that were being considered as Mini dealers.
Of course, BMW knows what the license requirements are, but apparently was trying to punish either the state (I forget for what), or to punish the Texas dealers who sued BMW over some franchise issue and won. Since demand far exceeds supply for now, it didn’t hurt BMW to leave Texas out even though, IIRC, it is the second largest new car market.
We have a dealership here. I want one. No, you don’t seem to understand…I WANT ONE!
These cars would be PERFECT to drive in this town, because the roads are so tiny downtown. From what I understand, they get decent gas mileage (no cite, just “I’ve heard”), and they seem to be pretty nice little cars. I’ve already built my own on their website. www.miniusa.com
So, who wants to buy me one, and get my undying love and adoration for all time? (The SO thinks they’re a waste of money…:()
