I have an old Mini iPod stuffed full of favorites, all burned from my own CD collection.
The battery is no longer holding a charge.
Can I transfer my iPod’s content to a generic (i.e., CHEAP) mp3 Player?
How?

I don’t know if this is a copyright violation, so I won’t post any specific steps, but if you Google “copy songs from iPod to computer” you will find your answer…
If it’s an older model, you might be able to connect it to your computer and view and transfer the files on it, just as if it were a USB/thumb drive or removable hard drive - there should be instructions on how to do this on the web somewhere. (I don’t believe you can do this with newer iPods like the iPod Touch, though.)
If you still have the source MP3/song files on a computer somewhere, though, it’s possibly easiest to copy them from there.
Do you still have that collection burned on your computer? Then just use that. In the future, keep that archived on your computer and back it up.
I’ve had pretty good luck with Senuti to recover content from old iPods.
Thanks for the advice, all. The Mac that I used to load my iPod was STOLEN, and I only have a mini-netbook WITHOUT a CD driveas a replacement. Also, some of the CDs were ALSO stolen! Such luck
I’ll see what I can do/try from your advice when I get back home tomorrow …
