minimizing open windows to taskbar?

I’m home for Christmas, trying to help my mom about her computer. She got a Dell with XP last Christmas. They have an AOL dial-up connection. Things were OK until they installed AOL 9.0. Then things went bad. But that’s not my question–I uninstalled 9.0.

They are currently using AOL 7.0 but, when you have an open window such as a thread on SDMB, and you minimize it, it DOESN’T reduce to the taskbar, but rather reduces only to the bottom of the open browser? window. This happens with all open windows that you try to reduce.

So, how do we reduce the windows so they show up on the taskbar?

Sorry if this has been asked, I tried search, but didn’t see this exact question.

You don’t. Not with AOL’s browser. If you want to have individual browser windows on the taskbar, you’ll have to use IE or some other standalone browser. Just minimize AOL and launch IE.
