Au contraire. If you are not a saint, without sin or spot, then you are the equivalent of Hitler, Stalin and Piers Morgan rolled into one. There can be no shades of grey here, no middle ground. Failure to turn the other cheek is the same as a boot to the face. Failure to smile while they stab you is the same as poisoning their children. And pointing out one person’s hypocrisy is the same as attempting to create legislation that would make thousands of people second-class citizens.
I’m fine with this guy as a representative of the gay community, italics and all!, at least in this matter.
Still not entirely clear on who appointed you to judge the gay community’s class or lack thereof. Are you at least some flavor of LGBT?
(P.S.: Not sure if you’re clear on this, your post suggests not, but we don’t actually elect representatives; we don’t even have honorary non-voting representation in Congress like the District of Columbia does, so no one actually represents the gay community under any circumstances.)
Apparently we aren’t reading very well.
If an organization had made that comment…yeah, bad public relations. Full stop stupid idea.
Since when? Or, in the local vernacular, I suppose I should say, “Cite?”
Seriously, is there any evidence that being nice to bigots helps us? Or is it more just an excuse for telling us to be quiet?
(Sorry for the multi-post, I was off sharing the holiday season with beloved and somewhat beloved family.)
Okay, so, again, why do you have so many opinions about what organizations should do, and why do you non-specifically complain about the gay community without learning whether the gay community’s duly elected representative was the one responsible for the letter that offended your delicate little sensibilities so, so much?
Thank you, this, exactly.
(Again, apologies for my verbal diarrhea.)
I don’t think you need to bother; they are unlikely to worry any more about your irrelevant opinions than the rest of us.
Perhaps, but again - an organization of oppressed people who’ve been the target of public, vicious, ongoing, decades-long attacks and denials of their human rights that decides to snark a bit when one of their oppressors’ hypocrisy is revealed is to be excused, I feel.
Not that I think that an organization would have done so. Cooler heads and all that. But if an organization had issued such snark, their reaction could be well understood by reasonable people.
Helpful tip: if you want to respond to multiple quotes in a thread, click the “multi-quote” button (looks like an open quote and a plus sign) at the bottom of each post you want to quote. When you get to the end of the thread, press “Post Reply,” and all the posts you tagged will appear in separate quote boxes. You can type your responses between the boxes, and the whole thing will show up as one post.
War? But… but… you returning nastiness for nastiness is mean! [/sarcasm]
