Minnesota trial of Derek Chauvin (killer of George Floyd) reactions

yeah, i mentioned that up thread.

it looks like they went the informal survey route, and then talk out anything not unanimous.

Question: Can a mistrial be a verdict? It could be that after several hours some Jurors have let it be known that nothing will change their minds, so it could be that they decided that they will not waste any more time?

Or it is that when they announce a verdict that in practice there is no way a hung jury is one result now?

A verdict is a verdict. There will be a resolution one way or the other.

My understanding is a mistrial would be declared by a judge. A hung jury is possible, but there is no way a judge would let them stop deliberating so quickly.

If George Floyd had survived, would Chauvin have been guilty of felony assault (intentional infliction of substantial bodily harm)? If so, then second-degree unintentional murder is appropriate.

I thought they started deliberating today. Ten hours is long enough to reach a compromise and convict on the lesser third-degree murder. I withdraw my earlier comment about second degree murder or nothing. It really could be anything.

If the verdict on 2nd degree murder is not guilty, does that mean the aiding and abetting 2nd degree murder of the other officers goes away?

BTW, outstanding avatar. Suits you.

It’s time

Guilty on one, two and three.

Guilty on all counts

Wow! Guilty of murder.

Wow!

Wow, I’m glad to be wrong!

Wow.

Just … fucking … WOW !

Amazing.

wow! i was betting on 2 out of 3. 3 of 3. wow.

Me too. Didn’t think they’d go for all three. Amazing! It appears it was unanimous.

Jesus, I didn’t think this would hit me this hard. Felt like lancing a wound.

Fucker didn’t look nearly as smug as when he was kneeling on Floyd’s neck!

Good result for a grade A asshole. Hope he gets put away for a good long while, and has an extremely unpleasant time of it.
