Minnesota wildlife is dangerous (MMP... the Sunday Evening Edition)

rigs, I’m seconding what gt said about Apple. The Kid is on her second. She got an I-Book two years ago, and just this last month upgraded to a newer PowerBook. You headed to Oakbrook? That’s my favorite mall, and the folks at the Apple stote there are VERY helpful. There’s classes they offer for new Mac users to get used to how things work, take advantage.

Um, and while you’re there…the Nordstroms - in the men’s casual department…there’s this sales girl there…kinda tall-ish, Irish looking, maybe late 20’s, dark brown hair just past her shoulders, BIG blue eyes…I think her name’s Mary…go by there and casually pretend to shop and pretend you’re not staring at her with lustful thoughts, ok? She’ll figure you must be me in disguise…I don’t know her, but I’ve already gotten the Kid’s permission to add her to the potential future step-mom list. :stuck_out_tongue:

swampy, I wanna come and hang with you someday, if just to sit by the pool and feast. I get hungry everytime I see what you’re up to…

I slept way, way later than I wanted to. Got the paper, made some poached eggs, bacon and coffee, now I’m off to Moe De Lawn. I’m talking the Wife into a walk down the river today. I’m having a ball with my new camera, which TECHNICALLY belongs to the taxpayers, but since I’m the one that uses it most at work, just stays with me and becomes my de facto personal camera as well. Just like this laptop…it’s the only one I have, and I’m free to use it as I want, so long as it’s available for legitimate work. I love my job, have I mentioned that? Cool toys, at my disposal.

Later, I have a couple Omaha steaks (NY Strips) to sear on the grill, with a side of mushrooms sauteed in butter and teriyaki, some bacon/chive/cheese loaded mashed potatoes and a big salad. That just screams for dessert, so my Monster Cookie Blizzard dreams may become reality today too.

Damn, I better go start burning some calories in advance…

Hey there!

Sounds like everybody’s busy this weekend. Yesterday we went to the Astros game, but we lost. It was fun, though. Followed by dinner at the fancy schmancy seafood place. It was good! Dad ate fried green tomatoes for the first time in his life, and we had some leftover for breakfast this morning.

Tom finished the birdbath, and planted some lovely purple flahrs around the base. He’s just the best hubby ever!

I’m washing clothes and sittin’ on my butt today. Later I’ll go to the grocery store, and I’m making lasagna for dinner.

Well, if you’re going to have mashed or baked taters, you want to be sure you’re not mashing our *Taters, Mama Tiger.

Quasi-Daughter was going to be here by 1:15. She is the least on-time person I know.

Someone talk me out of making an Inara outfit for the charity Serenity screening in two weeks.

You’d have to ask ** Mr. Taters**.

I am not in the least bit sea-lifey tasting. :stuck_out_tongue:

Hubby has headed out to fill the propane tank for our grill. We’re not sure how much is in the tank since we can’t remember the last time we filled it.

We’re gonna grill a couple of beef tenderloin type roast thingies. They should be tasty.

Lowes called this morning and wanted to confirm the delivery of our washer and dryer sometime between one and four o’clock. Dang, we were kind of hoping that they’d come around 11:00 so we could go boating. The sun is out, and the temps are quite comfortable. Oh, well. Maybe next weekend…

Li-Li, you think Quasi-Daughter is bad? Mr. Taters nephew is ten, nay 100 times, worse. If we tell him dinner is served at 5:00, we’re lucky if he shows up 6:30 or 7:00. It’s most annoying. For awhile, we would give him a time of two hours earlier than we told everyone else. It worked for a short time, but then he caught on. So, we tell him when dinner is served. We tell him if he’s not here on time, we’re eating without him. If we’re all going out somewhere, we tell him when we’re leaving. We also tell him, if he’s not here on time, we’re leaving without him. Period.

Mr. Taters informed me that he is the KING OF ALL THAT IS KINGINESS. What the hell does that mean? Anyway, I told him he need to leave his delusional world for awhile because we all know I’m the Empress of the World.

Okay, time to disinfect and clean my counters and clean my smooth top range. I don’t know why my kids can’t cook without getting crap all over it.

Hey, Cool Kids–I am coming to ya cordless!

Yep, David-a very nice Australian gentleman sold me a MacBook. With a free Nano Ipod and a free printer/scanner/color copier with mail in rebate…I also got a book abut how to do this. So far, it’s no problem. I am very excited and glad I went. I got the lot for under $17000-not bad because that includes the warranty and 3 years of tech support! (I figure I might as well, since noone in the family uses Mac…

Off to do Mom stuff. Cheery-bye!

Ok, I know that’s a typo Rigs, but I plotzed when I saw $17000.

MBG it does tend to be party central at the swampcave especially during the summer. That’s fine with me cause I have a pool and when it’s pool time I want to be there as much as possible. Plus, if I drink a wee bit too much all I have to do is crawl across the backyard and into the house. Come down and hang anytime. It’s also a hard rule that anybody at all who has had too much to drink has to spend the night. There is no drinking and driving away from the cave ever. Thus, on several occasions there have been bodies strewn throughout the place the next morning, but they are live bodies and that’s what counts.

Speaking of pool, Ima go take a nice long plunge. It’s still dang hot here, but it may start raining later. This tropical depression, soon to be Tropical Storm Alberto may be bringing us some much needed rain here. YAY!!!

$17k!
I have a “friend” in Nigeria who would like a word with you.

The dog is still comatose from the walk, and laundry is done for another week.

Friday was Disneyland! Somehow or other we actually got out the door early and were there by 9:15. We’d planned to be there at 8:45, of course, since the park openes at 9.

Anyway, they had a plan to travel the whole park. Um, yeah right. Healthy people can’t do it in one day. Anyway, we got my aunt to get a wheelchair. (She’d had knee surgery, and while we did our best not to make her walk all week there’s nothing you can do here). She was really reluctant. I didn’t say much but I was thinking also for her to please take the wheelchair, so we could all enjoy it better, including her. What fun is there for her if she has to walk all day?

Anyway, it was a great day. With my cousin Aaron we went on all the biggest roller coasters. Even the prude man went on most of them.

Three out of four of the biggest rollercoasters, the people that were supposed to be in the front seat got scared and asked me to switch with them. So I ended up right in the front.

This happened on Splash Mountain. Splash Mountain drops you down a 50 foot plunge. As we went over, I couldn’t see anything in front of me but a drop, and it really scared me - but I loved it, of course. I screamed pretty loudly though. Anyway, when we hit about a bucketful of water went straight up and came straight back down on me - I was completely soaked. My shorts especially. I was so glad I was wearing a black shirt!

We also went on the Indiana Jones Ride, Space Mountain, the train, and a bunch of others whose names I don’t even remember. At night we saw the water show, which was cool, too. And we were there until 9:30…lovely, lovely day.

And that’s how I spent my vacation!

Done for the day, with pics!

Basement pics. I think there are 5 or 6 of them.

And ceramics pics.

As soon as I post this, I’m gonna feed the critters and broil a coupla tuna steaks. Then I’m gonna crash. Whew!

A combo laundry/potty room. I’m lovin’ it! It’s brilliant!

I really like the ceramic pieces FCM. I think the matte finish on those green pieces looks great. I’m looking forward to the great MMP ceramic giveaway this week.

It’s getting cloudy here. I really hope this means rain. See, I planted some grass seed late Friday afternoon, in addition to cleaning the pool. I’ve been watering the suckers like crazy, so some rain would be real helpful about now. As I post, I look outside and see the sun’s back out. Guess I’ll have to turn on the sprinklers in a while. Le sigh. It’s such a bother. I mean, I have to walk all the way out to my garage, set the sprinkler system to manual, select the zone I want to water (zone four in this case), and punch in how long I want it to water. Life is so complicated some time ain’t it!

The walk was nice…ok, it’s a walk along a river, but it was nice. On the way, friends called and we agreed to save the steak/'shrooms and taters (N.O.T.) for another day. Instead we’ll be off for pizza and beer in a an hour or so. I have to hit the owner of this place up for a gift certificate for a raffle prize for the golf outing I’m running Tuesday after next anyway, so it’s kind of a justified expense.

Ah, the things I do for charity…

It’s making the best use of the space. Plus it gives me a bigger studio. Yay!

You got ceramics lust, swampy?? Lookin’ to add to your collections?

The washer and dryer arrived at 12:47. I only know the exact time because I happened to be looking right at the clock when the doorbell rang and my dog went nutso.

The main delivery fella wanted to see where they were going to put the new set so I took him up the stairs. He sighed, but I told him the delivery order stated there would be stairs. He said he knew it, but they didn’t say how many sets. He was pleased to note, however, that our stairway is very wide.

So, he arrived in our laundry room and asked me what we wanted done with the old washer and dryer. I told him, " I don’t care what’s done with them, just get them outta here." He laughed and said, “They are rather antique, aren’t they?”

Anyway, after much huffing and puffing by his helpmate, who was 19, they managed to get the old set down, and the new set up. I thought the 19 year old was gonna drop from a heart attack. He was really struggling.

After the main delivery guy set up the washer and dryer, he them both, and then explained how to use them. He then handed me a DVD and told me to pop some popcorn so I could learn all about my new appliances.

After they left, we discovered that we had to go out and buy HE laundry detergent. I had regular ol’ Tide and we can’t use that kind because it might ruin the machine. The kicker is, that we just bought that box at Costco. It’s hardly been used at all. We’re going to give it to our niece.

So, the first load laundry is in my washer. I am amazed at high quiet that thing is. We’re washing a load of our big beach towels and a couple of large bath towels. Man, that thing can fit a lot of laundry in it.

I am currently boiling eggs and taters for the tater salad I’m going to make with our dinner. I figured since I had to run to the grocery store to the get the soap, I may as well get the fixin’s for tater salad.

Very nice pieces of pottery, FCM. That pitcher is awesome. Great work on the basement too.

Well, I better check my taters.

I have this vision of owning an exclusive collection of FCM originals. My home shall become a showcase. HGTV will beg me to allow them to do a show of my f-aaaaaa-bu-lous collection. I will be a celebrity! What? If they’ll do shows about nuttin’ but bathrooms (maybe we should submit your combo laundry/potty!) why wouldn’t they do a show about ceramics?

No, *I * have this vision. (And I’m not sharing! :stuck_out_tongue: )

I wanna get a new washer and dryer! And a new fridge! And a new stove! Sadly, it isn’t happening this year. Except maybe the fridge. Unfortunately, the lovely harvest gold range (Caloric!) works really well, so I can’t justify getting a new one yet. But the fridge is probably using lots more electricity than necessary and is kinda falling aparty inside, so I’m thinking I really ought to start looking.

Had a nice dinner with friends. I brought hummus and baba ganouj and crispy stuff to dip in them. It managed not to rain while the burgers were on the grill, but we ate inside while it rained.

Everything was nummy, of course.

Now I’m tired and thinking about crawling into bed. Can’t believe the weekend is over!

GT

I would like a house and about $100,000 worth of new appliances. Why think small?

FCM, I love all your pottery. I especially like the pitcher and the white/black pieces. Awesome.

Home, relaxing and hanging out until bedtime. Tomorrow is wake up and run out to do laundry, then run home and get ready to work, then come home and sleep, and then run out to work again. I’m closing Monday (10pm) and opening Tuesday (9 am) so I don’t have any time tomorrow evening or Tuesday.

Paging Mika! Your attention is wanted in the yogurt thread! We want your recipe and instructions!

yikes–make that $1700!

And guess what-my life curse (that nothing, and I mean nothing) will be either easy or smooth is kicking in again. My MacBook has no sound-oh, the volume is up, but tis silent. Also, I have already had to call tech support for the frozen sleep mode earlier (which is why I wasn’t on earlier). Now tech support is closed for the noc, so first thing after getting #2 son off to camp is call Mac and ask for help.

Will look at pottery etc tomorrow, am sick of computers etc.
