Minnesota wildlife is dangerous (MMP... the Sunday Evening Edition)

Your primer drives? Wow, it must be real smart primer.

Gorgeous, gorgeous weather. I’m busy annoying daughter Whiterabbit in more southern climes with how gorgeous it is around here today. Seriously, if it was like this every day, it would be my absolutely perfect climate.

The only thing I ever did that needed to be fired in a kiln was a stupid vase I made in 7th grade art class. They wouldn’t even let us use a wheel; I had to misshape it by hand, and I decorated it, like a peanut butter cookie, with a fork. Then I used a blue glaze that I thought would end up shiny but ended up ugly matte instead. So I gave the stupid thing to my mother. To this day it’s on display and she receives compliments on that lovely piece of modern art. I’m not sure if that’s more of a sad commentary on my mother’s friends or modern art!

I’ve done daisy chain, brick stitch, applique (lazy stitch and backstitch Native type) and a few other types of beadwork, kaiwik. Currently I mostly do bead and eyepin and really small link chainmail, Japanese pattern. I also sew. We have a metric buttload of my fabric/beads/bits of wire/needs/pins/thread/ribbon around. I took a picture a few days ago of my desk when it’s tidy. I’ll get Mr. Lissar to put it up. You wouldn’t believe how messy it is, even in a state or relative tidiness.
I’m back from Mr. Lissar’s mudansha (no-belt: it’s the prereq for grading for a black belt) and I think I’ll have french toast for dinner. I just bought a litre bottle of maple syrup. We were out, and being out of maple syrup is a sad, sad thing.
Ooo! My mom offered to pay for some bellydancing classes for me! I miss dancing.

Hey everybody! Well, we had friends coming over but they had to back out because of work stuff at the last minute. That’s ok though, cause we had a good time out by the pool. Then we went and got something to eat at around five. Then we went to DQ where I got me an Oreo Blizzard. It had this code on the cup and said to log on to blizzardfanclubdotcom and play their scratch and win game, so I did when I got home. Just now as a matter of fact, I played. I won two free blizzards! WOOHOO! Oh and this morning, shortly after I posted, I decided to go to the Homo Depot and exchange two propane cylinders I had that were empty. On the receipt there was this User ID and a Password thingy. It said if I logged on to their site and took a customer service survey I would be entered for a chance to win a 5K dollar gift card, so I did. Wouldn’t that be jake! I could redo all my flors with 5k I think.

Ok, think we’re going back to the pool for a while. It’s still really, really hot outside.

Go ahead - abuse me. I’m too tired to care… damned sorta homonyms…

The room is painted. As it happens, the can of paint we designated isn’t the leftovers from the dining room. It’s the leftovers from our kitchen in Florida! It’s an ivory color rather than the peach, but that’s fine. We had ivory outlets and switches, and it should look OK with the grey floor and cove base. The sink counter will be the same green that’s in the kitchen - this kitchen, not the Florida kitchen. And the sink, toilet, tissue holder, and towel bar, as well as the washer and dryer and shelf are all white.

We’ve installed the outlets and the switches and the lights in the room, although we still need the fluorescent tubes for one of the fixtures. The fan works - YAY! So, tomorrow, we’ll go get breakfast, then make a quick stop at Lowe’s for a few more items. Then FCD will put down the floor and I’ll paint the door frame and the outside walls. By the end of the day, the toilet and washer/dryer should be in place too.

Plus, while I was at class, FCD finished installing the kiln and its exhaust fan. I may fire the kiln tomorrow when I put the kiln wash on the shelves - I need to have 3 coats of wash before I fire anything glazed.

I’m almost in business.

I decided against jumping back in the pool, being as I had already showered before going to eat. Instead, I turned on the tv and was watching this wedding special thing on the Food Network. The bride and groom are Jewish so they did the traditional thing where they lift the bride and groom up on chairs. The bride’s dress flew up <snerk> which prompted me to yell:

I SEE LONDON! I SEE FRANCE!

The classics just never get old do they?

Brides wear underpants?

That’s not much fun is it? Though I guess if you’re going to be lifted on a chair and Granny is going to be at the wedding, well then…

I haven’t had a Blizzard in about too long. I saw a commercial the other day for a Monster Cookie Blizzard that just might get me out to a DQ pretty soon.

I’ll tell you what I DID have though…I made rigs’s Death Chicken for dinner today.

TWO THUMBS UP!!

(Mine and the Wife’s…the child doesn’t eat a lot of chicken, so she had leftover ham…her loss)

FCM, I’m sorry, I read all about the work you guys do around the house and I feel like…well, like sitting right here on the couch… :stuck_out_tongue:

hey all, I’m back from the movies. On a scale of 10, I give a solid 7. My friend, who was never really a fan of PHC, gave it an 8 - maybe I was expecting too much. Lots of good music - who know Woody Harrelson could sing? And Kevin Kline did an excellent job playing Guy Noir (PHC fans know who that is) The cinematography was very good - and Altman’s directing shone thru. My recommendation - see it, eventually.
Then we did a little shopping - he went in to Tower Records while I went next door to Rockaway bedding. Yes, folks i bought a new bed, or rather I put one on lay-a-way because beds cost more than they used to. I bought a Sealy - Dayam, that’s one comfy bed!
Then we went to a new restaurant in town - American fare - pricey but very tasty - I had duck in a cognac cream sauce with wild rice pilaf. My friend had rigatoni with proscuitto, mushrooms, and some other yummy veggies, in a pomodoro sauce. both very yummy.
Now I’m home, but thanks to 2 cappucinos, not at all sleepy :D. At least tomorrow is Sunday and I don’t have to get up.

Up way too early on Sunday after repeated awakenings with bizarre dreams. It was a strange night. I’m still tired, but I’m awake, so I’m up. Once FCD decides it’s time for him to get up, we’ll get some breakfast, then get the few things we need at Lowe’s, then come home and get back to work. Somewhere in there, I need to photograph and post pics of my latest stuff.

At one of the points when I woke up during the night, I started composing tomorrow’s MMP - is that a little over the top or what? I didn’t exactly get up and put pencil to paper, or fingers to keyboard, but I was trying out sentences in my head. Yep, maybe just a *little * over the top. Oh well.

The dog has been walked and the critters have both been fed. I’ve brushed my teeth. All in all, that’s pretty productive for 6:20 on Sunday morning.

Lucky for the bride that she decided against going commando to her wedding…

Hee, hee, swampy. I’d forgotten that classic.

Thanks for the review, rosie. It got a very good review in our newspaper (the movie critic is very good, I think; don’t always agree with him, but he’s knowledgeable and thoughtful and I’ve been reading his stuff so long that I have a good sense of what I’ll like based on his reviews). I want to see it, but not sure when I’ll get to it…

Glad to hear you get to take some more dance classes, LiLi. I miss hearing about them. (And I still want to see a picture of that guy. :D)

FCM, you’ve inspired me to get started on a plan to repaint indoors. I’ve been wanting to paint my office for a while. It’s the only room we didn’t paint when we moved in and it’s pretty boring. Also need to work on refinishing the dining room table. Need to acquire a few more dining room chairs. I keep looking for ones I like and failing. I’m thinking I might start scouring used furniture stores and get 3 pairs that I can finish alike. I’ve actually worked on my list of stuff that needs to be done here. Table and chairs are up there on the list. Office is not far behind. Also need to replace the shelves that I’m currently using. I’m thinking that I’m going ot add shelves to the bookcase in the back bedroom and move it into the office and then maybe add shelves on the wall above that. Hmmmm…

Wound up having an unscheduled hijack to my day yesterday. Local best friend required company finding a wedding present. We wound up at Crate and Barrel and then at Macy’s, amazed at the items that people put on these lists. Went back and forth on several items and then settled on a coffeemaker because she knows that the happy couple both need and would use one. LBF and I are both hopelessly practical (and cheap) people and would never actually ask anyone to spend the kind of money on us. She got married last year and wasn’t registered anywhere. She and hubby already had a household’s worth of stuff and took great joy in getting good deals on additional stuff they needed.

It’s supposed to rain today. I’m thinking it’s another indoor clean-up day. Also, I need to figure out what to take to dinner. I’m invited to a cookout. Maybe I’ll make some kind of tater (N.O.T.) salad. Don’t quite have enough basil for the one that has garlic, basil and tomatoes… Hmmm… At least I have a while to think about it. Ideas?

Well, off to make lists and get to church…

GT

Good morning everyone!

I had a night of very strange dreams that kept waking me up too. I don’t feel at all rested.

We ended up not going boating yesterday because we weren’t quite sure what the weather was going to do.

We did go out to dinner for Mexican and then we went saw The Omen. My advice to you is not to see it. It’s the very same movie it was when it originally came out. Nothing is changed in it except for the actors and actresses. Also, the kid who played Damien just wasn’t at all ominous looking. He just looked like a kid that pouted all of the time and I found it extremely annoying.

Anywho, the new washer and dryer arrive today. Yippee! I need to pull the stuff out of the laundry room so they have room to maneuver and we’ll be ready for their arrival. If the washer and dryer get here early enough, we may go out on the boat. If not, well, we’ll just hang out and BBQ.

I was watching the news last night and have determined I’m never going garage saling. Some poor woman was hit and killed at a garage sale last night. She was standing at the back of her vehicle loading her purchases, when another woman in a Dodge Durango swerved and then smashed RIGHT INTO THE LADY loading her purchases. She was crushed to death. That is beyond horrible.

I see FCM is her usual busy self and making me look like a sloth. Fine, just fine. I’ll be tons of laundry today…how’s that? Does that make up for some of my slothfulness?

I can’t wait to see the pictures of the pottery **FCM. **

Honestly, you people have a warped view of me. I tell you the few productive things I do, but you have no idea how many hours I spend playing sudoku on line! Really!

Anyway, we’re back from our errands and my paint roller is calling. I’ll be back later. Crabby and tired. Something to look forward to, eh?

Sorry FCM, I do not think our view of you is warped. You can’t spend that many hours playing Suduko, you just can’t. Your to-do list is huge and I can’t imagine that you have that amount of time on your hands.

Or, if you do, you must be Jeannie incarnate and just cross your arms and blink the work done.

You wanna come to my house and take care of some of my to-dos? I’ve got lots, but just can’t seem to find the time and/or energy to get all them done the way you get your stuff done.

Y’all ever watch My Name Is Earl? In the episode where Joy gets married, she registers for gifts at the liquor store. She’s all class! Funny, funny show.

This morning we had Morning Prayer instead of Eucharist because our Priest was absent due to the death of his godson. I really like this service. Plus, it’s kinda short so church was over in forty-five minutes. For those so inclined, you can see the order for Morning Prayer in this online version of The Book Of Common Prayer.

Time to fire up the grill. We’re having grilled chicken, salad, steamed asparagus, company smashed taters (N.O.T.), breadsticks and peach cobbler for lunch. Company’s comin’ too.

Oh, gt here’s a good tater (N.O.T., that just never gets old does it!) salad recipe for ya.

3-4 pounds of new potatoes
1 bunch of green onions
1/4 cup each of olive oil (or vegetable oil) and mayo
Black pepper to taste

Boil potatoes whole in salted water. I prefer to leave the skins on.
Allow potatoes to cool, then slice. Chop onions and add. Mix oil and mayo together and mix with potatoes and onions. Add black pepper to taste.

It’s called German Spring Potato Salad. It’s a nice, light tater (N.O.T., it’s just a classic!) salad. The worst part is slicing up all the little new potatoes.

I am off to the Apple store, to see about a Mac.

I do wish I had a personal assistant, who would shop for me, come home, load everything I need/want and just show me how to work that damned thing.
I am not real into computers. To me, they’re just like my car–a useful tool that should function well at all times. I don’t mind routine maintenance etc, but I don’t feel I should have to know the inner workings, just to get good performance (hmmm…that also sounds like a good formula for casual sex).
Someday I’ll grow up and just do this stuff without whining. The fact that I have to drive 40 minutes on construction laden highways only adds to the thrill.

Oh, good morning everyone. I will continue to grouse offline.

I personally do not miss Scary See-Through White Shorts Guy, gt but that’s because I had to see him. Your eyes would bleed.

If you don’t feel like grouse, eleanor, you could try starling. Or maybe quail.

Aerin just had anal gland leakage onto the quilt. If you don’t have a cat, that’s just about as unpleasant as skunk. I don’t love her anymore. The sport is doused with Nature’s Miracle (the best stuff in the world) and I’m going to wash the duvet cover.
swampy, can you recite the liturgy really fast? I can.

Time to wash dishes before going to the craft show again (this time with Quasi-Daughter), and then to work.

Hey rigs. The not-into-computers might be a good reason to get an Apple. Loading programs is generally much less of a trial than with Windows. With a lot of them, you drag them to the Applications folder and then start using them. The most you generally have to do is click through an end user’s agreement.

I dunno, LiLi, I think scary guy sounds like one of those people you just have to stand in awe of. Sorry about Aerin and the…ermmm…spill.

Back from church. It hasn’t started to rain yet, so I think I’m going to do a bit of gardening before retreating in to get ready to go to dinner. Mmmm, that tater (N.O.T., you’re right, it doesn’t get old, does it?) salad sounds good, swampy. I might make it for lunch this week.

Since it’s not raining yet, I’m going to do something less labor-intensive for dinner. Not sure yet what, of course…

GT

Okay, can someone please clue me on what the tater (N.O.T.) stuff is all about? Like what does N.O.T. mean? Pretty please? With sugar on top?

I didn’t sleep well last night, either, but it wasn’t due to bad dreams. Our house is next door to a community center, where normally activities are supposed to quiet down at 11 pm, and if they’re too loud in any case (like the time a few weeks ago we came home one evening and the folks who’d rented out the CC were playing music so loud our entire house was buzzing), we call the cops, which has only happened that once thus far. But anyway, this past week was the fundraising carnival for the local volunteer fire department. A worthy cause and one that prevents me from complaining about noise except to my hubby and you guys. I could live with the noise of the actual carnival, although the smell of grease floating in my office window all week has been semi-nauseating.

But then when they shut down for good at 11 pm last night, they started tearing down all the rides. Crash! Bang! Smash! Yelling! Crash! Smash! Boom! Bang! Clang! I had to close our bedroom windows, which really, REALLY pissed me off since it was a lovely cool night for sleeping, but good grief, the noise was insanely loud. It finally let up at 1:15 am…or so I thought. I was awakened five more times before 3:30 am by either yelling or clanging/banging metal. And then there were guys who started yelling again at 8:15 this morning. So I am NOT a happy Tiger this morning. I am a tired, cranky, headachy Tiger. But at least the damn carnival is gone.

So I’m watching the Iran/Mexico World Cup game and enjoying the lovely weather as best I can. At least the dogs are out of commission for the rest of the day; Papa T. took them to the beach early this morning and wore them out good. It was the Lab Beach, apparently, as all the hardcore doggie swimmers were there bright and early. They don’t care if it’s cold! They’re swimming! For boundless enthusiasm, there is just nothing like a lab, is there?

N.O.T= Not Our Taters.

I went to Mass this morning, and the went to Wal-Mart for a few things. They had a giant inflateable bimbo out front. Took Maggie for a walk, and we wandered towards a squirrel. I guess I’ll do laundry now,I’m out of clean underwear.

So it’s taters (Not Our Taters)? Huh? Color me even more confused. How are taters Not Our Taters? Are they Your Taters? Are they Someone Else’s Taters? Are they My Taters? Are they Artificial Taters? Are they Mutant Taters? Are they Squid-Flavored Taters? Inquiring Minds Want to Know.
