So, this Friday, I took the train in from my small hotel near Gatwick, and find myself at the end of the line (Victoria Station). Since I wasn’t in England for sightseeing, I had no idea where I was, other than that I’ve heard of that station before. I’d hoped to corner garius and buy him a drink for being such a swell guy, but the hour was late and it seemed a pity to bother him. So I set out on foot to see what I could see. The evening was cool, and after wandering for what seemed a far distance (but in retrospect was not), I found myself requesting a pint in a bar near a church at the corner of St. Barnabas and Pimlico.
I sidled to a corner of the bar and took a sip, then took a look around at my surroundings. Only a few people in the front room, although there may have been a few more in the room to the side. Say, that fellow sitting at the table with the woman whose hair had undergone a few too many dye jobs looked familiar. Could it be, nah… wait yes! It was Commander Riker, nee Jonathan Frakes. Have to admit that I didn’t recognize the woman. After talking to my wife and viewing the publicity stills, it turns out that it was most likely his wife, Genie Francis, who some may remember as Laura from General Hospital. She seems to have added a few pounds over the years, though who hasn’t, but that explains why I didn’t recognize her right off.
I had the decorum not to stare, and the restraint not to shout out “make it so!”, although I have to admit it was mighty tempting.
