Was it good for the bed?
And of course when one goes shopping they never expect…(you know which organization)
That makes no sense. Why would anyone normal even think that??
What do you mean? Every brand has an image. In fact, brands work hard to create images. The image of a single male shopper is incongruent with the image of Macy’s. There’s nothing abnormal about that. That doesn’t mean it’s a major social faux pas, but I’m not the first one in this thread to think “Heh, he should be shopping at Target, not Macy’s.” It’s not a big deal; it’s just funny.
I was going to say, where on earth are guys supposed to shop for things? Even if one thought ‘metrosexual’ as opposed to ‘normal human who needs something’, the term itself is so outdated it shouldn’t even exist anymore. Men need things, therefore men go shopping for things. It just is very odd to me for anyone to think that’s weird.
Don’t worry, there are plenty of options for you to get your stuff. I myself mentioned Target, Walmart, Kmart, and Bed, Bath, and Beyond. But you’re taking it too seriously. I don’t know why this is becoming such a big deal. Macy’s housewares department has a particular brand image, and I set it forth above – bridal registries and affluent housewives. Sure, anyone can go in a Macy’s, but that doesn’t mean that it still can’t seem incongruous to imagine a single man shopping there.
I am SO going sheet’ ‘shopping’ as soon as possible…
Ok. Just never thought of that. There is a Macy’s near me and if I ever need house stuff or clothes or whatever, that is the first place I go. Also because there are always coupons.
All the people who wondered if the OP looked weird or scary are overlooking the fact that the clerk initially thought he was a good family man. She wasn’t freaked out to look at him.
I had kind of the opposite (but similar) experience at a Macy’s one time, when I was buying some cute underwear as a gift for my wife. When I brought it to the counter, the clerk, a woman in conservative Muslim dress, looked at me balefully. She didn’t say anything, but I’m pretty sure she was wondering if I was buying it for myself.
Online shopping, and Macy’s delivers. If it is the wrong fit you can return it at the customer service window and never even have set foot in the sheet department.
I’m pretty sure the OP was really after the kids. The part about buying sheets?
That was his cover story!
I was on my own for 15 years between college and marriage, and have shopped for sheets and towels on my own occasionally during 20+ years of marriage. Never had anything like this happen to me.
Psst Your fly’s down…
That’s what they are supposed to ask to get you to sign up for their registry or to make sure they check the registry to upsell you. Or send you to gift wrap.
It’s not where YOU expect a single man to buy housewares. The stuff at Target, Walmart, Kmart, and Bed, Bath, and Beyond is typically over priced, dreck, or both.
I expect anyone who needs sheets to go the a place like Macy’s during the white sale.
Oh. I see.
They though you’d read on-line it was a good place to pick up women.
Actually, didn’t you say in the OP that you took your time, examined and evaluated the full selection? Men, in my experience, do not shop like that; they know what they want, they find it, they buy it … no peaceful grazing, no thrill of the hunt …
Yes, I think it is perfectly normal for you to shop at Macy’s, but very atypical to take your time. Sue me.
(BTW, anything over 250 thread count just means the sheets will wear out faster. I bought 800 once and they last two years.)
Yes, it could be as simple as that. Sounds like the assistant did a fairly hamfisted job of it though.
My cousin was dragged along by his wife to the perfume counter. She wanted to buy Anais Anais. Being something of a ditz, she informed the clerk that she wanted some “Anus Anus” perfume. My cousin may have qualified for a medal for the speed with which he departed the scene.
