It’s not what I would call a common problem, but it does happen.
I mean both generally and specifically. Directly misgendering anyone (whether they are on this board or not) should not be tolerated. Neither should the general “trans women are really men” or the like be allowed.
I can’t be sure, but I think I mentioned it because I’d recently learned that there were about a dozen trans posters who no longer post here because they think the board’s response to transphobia is not swift enough, that posters are allowed to stick around way too long after this. So I wanted to make it clear that my proposed compromise did not include transphobic bullshit.
I hope the banning that BPC mentioned will mean those people will be happier to post here.
I participated in that thread, and I’m sure he was obliquely referring to me. There’s a very strong argument, based on the 14th Amendment’s Equal Protection Clause, that a law that protects girls from genital alterations and ignores boys will be struck down. If that turns out to be the case, then the two issues can’t be neatly separated. It’s quite possible to argue that protecting boys is an essential part of a strategy to also protect girls. That’s not “whataboutism” nor is it “misogyny.”
Apparently it is about ignoring the stated purpose of a thread to push an agenda. You may have a problem with not bringing up subject “B” every time the topic of subject “A” is brought up, but I assure you that it is entirely possible to focus in on one without having to bring up the other. Would it kill you to at least give it a try, or at the very least refrain from participating if you cannot control yourself?
Imagine someone started a thread in the BBQ Pit entitled “End Violence Against White People.” People start posting objections to the very premise of the thread, asking why the OP is narrowly focused on the concerns of whites when non-whites in America are more likely to be the victims of violent crime. Would the objections posted in that thread be racist trolling?
