edit: nm, not worth the dumb back-and-forth
Or you could ignore the post and not play junior mod, or report the post and not play junior mod, or take it to the Pit…
That beats a board where whoever has the loudest and largest contingent not only dictates the rules but the perceived reality.
The only thing worse would be a board in which a half a dozen posters can deny the plain reading of their words and force the hundreds of others to do without a set of rules for what is acceptable in regards to hate speech.
Try quoting the whole post for context. And what you consider “plain reading” is quite often not the case. Far too often people allow their emotions and implicit biases to cloud their reading comprehension.
We are talking about things like advocating taking precautions leading to accusations of being a rape apologist. Then when people explain they are called trolls and misogynistic.
We have threads where saying people should have free speech in public leads to accusations of being Hitler. I don’t think the problem that you are concerned about is likely to occur. Because it would require this so-called plain reading to actually occur instead of being nothing more than a conjecture.
People have explained exhaustively why these statements are phenomenally shitty in context. I’m not the only one who’s tried to make it clear to you. What you’re saying is extremely problematic and ignoring everyone who explains that to you doesn’t somehow magically make it less problematic.
If I ask you for a cite, will I be more disappointed at the stripping of context or the hyperbole? Inquiring minds wish to know.
Yes, more than a warning. He should be banned. He apologized because he relalized that he had gone too far so that he could continue his vile behavior.
What you don’t realize is that your explanations are not fact but opinion.
In other words, the fact you claim that what we say constitutes rape apology does not make it so.
In order for true rape apology to exist someone has to justify or support it. Not one such statement can be found anywhere on this board, yet accusations of rape apology abound.
What is the reason for this, do you suppose?
This is projection. It is unequivocally impossible to believe a small number of reprobate men telling a unanimous group of women that the misogyny they see in posts from those men does not exist.
It has occurred. It is occurring right now. Every indication is that it will continue in the future.
The attitude that allowed rape culture to flourish is like cigarettes. Once cigarettes were everywhere. They were socially accepted in virtually all circles. They made a person look cool. All of a sudden, in cultural time, they became an abomination. Lighting one made a person look like an uncaring idiot and maybe even an actual assaulter.
“Boys will be boys” is like that. Maybe the behaviors of frat boys like Kavanaugh once looked cool and worthy of emulation and maybe adulation. Now they are an abomination. So are those who would excuse those behaviors, fail to acknowledge the trauma caused by those behaviors, and belittle the pain suffered by their victims. People who say that “factual rape” is the only standard of harm will rightfully be villified for doing so.
Times have changed. My guess is that I’m older than you are, so I know what I’m talking about. People with archaic attitudes on gender (and race and orientation and many other things) are cigarettes. They’ll be pushed outside to the rain and snow. Then they’ll be proscribed within the far boundaries of the property. Then regulations will be passed so they are not allowed in most types of establishments. Anybody who is so benighted as to argue for the value of these attitudes will be laughed at to their faces. Their not cool status will lessen the number of youngsters who adopt these attitudes to the dwindling point of a few outcasts of decent society.
It’s happening all around you. It can’t happen soon enough.
“rape apology” is a common shorthand for any statement that says any sexual assault is somehow less than horrifying.
(Don’t argue: Google it)
Which is exactly what you did.
Stop denying this obvious fact.
What a great example of one of your tactics: you ask for explanations, then complain they’re “only opinion.” Opinions, of course, matter, as anyone convicted by the “opinions” of a jury finds out pretty fast.
You also use the old ploy of demanding that people substantiate their opinions, then ignoring that substantiation or dismissing it out of hand and claiming nobody can substantiate their claims. “I keep offering people $100!” is the perfect example.
You constantly try to slide around accusations by claiming if something is not stated in so many words, it doesn’t exist. You’d lose a lot of court cases with this stance. A man could argue that he accidentally shot his wife, but if he’s left notes saying, “SO glad I’ll be a widower soon!” and “Quite confident I could shoot her in the temple and make it look like an accident,” the jurors stands on solid legal ground when they infer otherwise, even if the defendant screams, “Show me the exact words where I said I intended to kill her!” as he’s dragged from the courtroom in handcuffs.
Your tactics aren’t working. You’ve convinced no one.
If they’ve substatiated their claims why aren’t they demanding their $100?
Maybe no one wants to give you their contact info. I know that’s not worth a hundred bucks to me.

No we dont- because if we had them, your posts would come right up to that bright line.

You have, repeatedly.
-
Your posts are a perfect example.
Or at the least suspended.
You don’t have to ban people, you just need to stop the behavior. Y’all need a Box but if you won’t install that then let community moderation do the heavy lifting. If you get complaints about the way a specific poster is behaving in a thread then kick them OUT of that thread. That way the thread can go along in a different direction and the offensive person is prevented from riding their hobbyhorse–but they’re welcome to shut up and listen. You don’t need to worry about what forum they’re in or whatever the fuck, just if they get enough reports in thread for being racist or misogynist or rapey or gross or whatever then give 'em a note that says “get outta the thread now” and that’s that. If they want to take it up in PM that’s fine but make it crystal clear that mod notes kicking someone out of a thread will not ever be reversed or rescinded. They can go make their own goddamned thread on the same topic, with blackjack and blow if it makes 'em happy, but the original thread is no longer an option for them.
I’d give a report from the OP a considerable amount of weight–it’s their content and if some fuckforbrains is gunking it up I think they ought to get some say in who gets to play in their sandbox. That’s just me, though.
Benefit is that the regular offenders will be getting kicked out of certain threads tout de suite, then those threads can go on in whatever tangent they like. The community (even lurkers) feel empowered because when they get frustrated by some mindless git’s failure to comprehend the most basic concepts they can clear the fart stench from the room with a few strategic reports. After a while, it will become crystal clear who the worst offenders are and whether or not the board benefits when their participation in certain types of thread is curtailed. Some might learn to stop being assholes and learn how to play nice with others in order not to get booted from a thread they’re genuinely interested in. Nobody’s MAH FREE SPEECHES are abridged, they’re perfectly free to go start a parallel thread with their own preferred slant on things and the rest of the community is free to either participate or ignore those threads as they choose. Seems like a pretty easy solution to me.
While you’ve got your checkbook out, you can write one to me as well.
+1
It’s almost as if he enjoys “not” understanding.
I’m going to need way more than 100 dollars to reveal my actual identity, but thanks anyway.
