Missing child...for more than a month now

I don’t know if this will end up in the Pit or not, but I’ll start it here.

Little Caylee Anthony is missing. She’s 2.

I’ve lost track of my children when they were younger. It was the most terrifying half hour of my life (my son had wandered over to play with the kitties next door). But I guess Caylee’s mom is made of stronger stuff…her daughter’s been missing since June 9. Caylee’s grandmother had to call the police.

Caylee’s mom has apparently also lied all over the place about where she worked, who had her daughter, where she lived…

A neighbor said Caylee’s mom borrowed a shovel about a month ago. And today police will be digging up the backyard of Caylee’s grandparents’ house, after cadaver dogs alerted on a few places.

I do not see how this can end well. :frowning:

I would guess it won’t end, really. They’ll never find that girl. Sounds to me like the mom was buying time for evidence to be “disappeared.” I’d be really surprised if she buried her in the back yard…maybe out in a swamp somewhere.

That Texas two-year-old whose remains were found floating in a blanket box in the Gulf of Mexico? Her grandma was the one to call the cops, “I haven’t seen my granddaughter in an awful long time…” Caylee’s mom doesn’t have a lock on evilness.

ETA: :frowning:

An the mother of two year old found in Galveston Bay just had another baby.

Saw this on CF News 13 the other day. Is it just me, or did the mother look all of 15 when they arrested her?

I can’t help but feel about these women the way I feel about rabid dogs. Something terrible must have happened to them, to make them capable of killing their child. Yet, sympathy does no good. They should, at the very least, be prevented from ever having another child again.

In the end, it would be best to simply put them down.

The article says she’s 22.

Maybe she sold the baby. This article was in a link on the page posted by the OP:

*Lie: She claimed she worked full time at Universal Studios – the reason she needed a baby sitter.

Truth: Theme-park officials said Thursday that Anthony has never been an employee.*

So where is she getting her money?

Universal Studios didn’t know I was an employee when I worked there, either, so don’t read too much into that.

Their HR department had my SSN listed as 000-00-0000. Caused me all kinds of headaches when I went to file my (first ever) tax return…

Interesting. From that same article:

*Lie: Anthony claimed she had been so concerned she told two co-workers at Universal Studios her child had disappeared.

Truth: Neither person she named works at Universal.*

It would be a shame if US’s lack of knowledge of who works there sent investigators on an even wilder goose chase.

There’s more from other media outlets…at one point she was escorting police down to where her “office” was, then halfway down the hall, she stopped and said she never worked there.

Either she’s in some weird land of denial, or she’s hiding something.

How heartbreaking, as our daughter is nearing the same age. I don’t know how a parent could do this? Part of me wants to feel bad for them, but more of me feels sadder for the children. They don’t know what’s going on.

I hope it turns out well, but part of me thinks it won’t. /sigh

Back to the OP’s article:

It says:

Casey Anthony and her daughter had lived with her parents at their Lee Vista home until June 9.

It also says:

Casey Anthony told officials she dropped her daughter off with a baby sitter she identified as Zenaida Gonzalez on June 9 but that the child was gone when she returned to pick her up.

June 9: Moves out, takes baby to sitter on same day (allegedly). The baby disappears the very day she leaves her parents’ home? That’s really suspicious, like the behavior of a stupid criminal. And given how many lies she’s been getting caught in, I’m thinking ‘If it walks like a duck and talks a duck…’

I’d like to know how long her parents were under the impression she worked at Universal. Did she leave every weekday morning for six months? What was she actually doing, instead? Was she apparently earning legitimate money but in fact she was dealing drugs or prostituting herself? It will be very interesting to see how this all plays out.

Partying…er, um, I mean, conducting her own investigation.

Right, but I mean before the child went missing? She’s saying she was working at Universal. I don’t know for how long, but pre-June 9 the child wasn’t missing. So maybe in May, she was “leaving for work” in the morning and her parents assumed she was at Universal—where did she go instead? What work number did she give them in case of emergency while they watched the little one?

ETA: I suspect that what she was doing before the child went missing is key to where the child is. E.g. suppose she ran up a huge illicit gambling debt and the only way to pay it off was to give them the child.

That baby has been fed to the gators, by now. Dammit. :frowning:

Money seems to be the primary motivator for her.

*On the MySpace page set up by Cynthia Anthony, Casey’s mother and the grandmother of the missing child, she lists her mood as “distraught.” In one of her blog postings, she details the sometimes strained relationship she has with Casey.

“What does the mother get for giving her daughter all of these chances? A broken heart. The daughter who stole money, lots of money, leaves without warning and does not let her mother now speak to the baby that her mother raised, fed, clothed, sheltered, paid her medical bills,” her blog posting reads.*

*“I am very, very close to the family. I was close to Casey,” Amy Huizenga told Eyewitness News.

They were close, she said, until she recently accused Casey of stealing more than $700.*

*But after hours of work, detectives abandoned their back yard search and said they were confident the child must be somewhere else, Local 6’s Mike DeForest reported.

The investigation has now shifted to Casey Anthony’s car and different locations*.

Wanna bet she took out an insurance policy?

What is sad is that there many couples who would love to adopt and are unable to due to various reasons that would love to take in and raise these kids that are “unwanted”.
Who really knows what goes through the parent’s mind?
I have not had children, do not want to raise children, and have made that choice. I wish that women that really don’t want to be parents would do what is necessary to not have children or allow them to be adopted by couples (hetero or homo) who do want to raise healthy, productive citizens of this planet.
But, I really think Caylee is already dead or sold to a pedophile.
I sure hope I am wrong.

I did some research on it. Wish I’d saved the link but one said during questioning she was calm and laughed. Others said she was stoic and spoke in a monotone. It seems like she knows the kid isn’t dead.

Sounds like the grandparents are sticking by the mother.
