Missing Coworker, Part II

And here comes Celyn the wet blanket. Sorry, it sounds like a good idea, but I would not think much of a phone company that was happy to divulge information about private phone calls just like that.

“Why do you need to know, Ms Friend?”

An - you are a frend - oh tht is perfectly ok then"

Surely it would take the police to do that?

Still the whole thing continues to be a riveting, if worryin, story. No matter how odd she is , I hope she is ok.

I don’t know what kind of capability the tech people have, but I can get the switching information for the last three calls from my workstation. Of course, the minute anybody asks me to do something like that I have to transfer them to another division to have a chat with a team of hungry lawyers.

Perhaps she was kidnapped. Then on Sunday escaped and made the call for money. However her abductiors were searching for her and she had to get off the phone and has since been recaptured.
Or maybe the beeyatch just doesn’t care about her job anymore.

you know I was wondering when a moderator would show up…
You know you guys could use your links to The Great One to help us track down MC. SHe could be face down in a ditch!!

I’m trying to retain the suspense here

We’ve been told not to do this for customers but not for legal reasons. Mostly because it’s a pain in the ass and a waste of time. I once helped someone find their lost cell phone back when I was in Customer Service (because I was new and I love to play with the switch programs) but it took too much time and hell, we probably make money when customers need to get another phone again anyways.

I believe out tech people can locate each call every made and probably triangulate signal strength on the nearest towers. All I can do is determine a moving cell (by watching hand offs by each tower), last call made and received (regardless if it’s blocked or not) and registered signal strength. Maybe you americans have a better system?

Oh yeah, and sorry for the hijack!

Wow things move fast.

I have a few thoughts/questions.

  1. What was the original thread title of part II for those of us who missed it? (stupid work interfering with important stuff)

  2. I assume the missing person case will be dropped. It sounds like she is an adult who can and is making decisions for herself. May not be the right decisions, but she is allowed to mess up her own life.

  3. I am glad she is ok. I agree she is probably at Vegas (why do you think she needed money wired to her, gambling is not free, but she probably hit a jackpot, enough to pay for a few more days of fun).

  4. Has Dolores Claiborne brushed her teeth since her confession of eating fish? I am turning blue from holding my breath.

  5. This definitely is a Lifetime movie. The only thing we need is for her to do bad stuff to her new husband since Lifetime movies always have a “I hate men” theme to add it to the 20 movies shown over and over and over.

OK, so my boss is reading my coworker’s email . . .

For the late comers :dubious:

Damn, I was hoping there were aliens involved. I like stories with aliens.

Maybe, since the damn phones will not quit ringing, and my boss acts like there is a reason I am here, (other than to surf the boards), I missed something:

Are we really sure she is married, or maybe she was lying like a cheap rug to Friend. I mean, at this stage, I’m having a hard time believing anything about her. If she has any mental issues, I’d say “compulsive liar” is probably Number One on the list. Maybe everything she told Friend was a load of horsehockey.

The only decent part is she was at that time still alive, but I can’t help but wonder what is really going on.

It started with “OH MY F***ING GOD!!!” whcih had those of us thread followers thinking “Eek! A body must’ve turned up!!!”

The cops usually like more clear-cut confirmation that someone is okay. So, maybe, maybe not.

Yeah but she could have got married when she disappeared for two weeks last month. Maybe this is the quickie divorce. Or maybe the first guy’s dead and she’s marrying someone else now! (Yeah, that’d be a good story arc!)

Holy s**t. I just spent the better part of an hour reading both this thread and the previous one, from the beginning. This is an amazing story, man. Sure sounds like the woman either got into some serious trouble with her boyfriend/husband-type-guy, has a serious mental illness, or both. Here’s hoping she gets back safe and sound so she can start job-hunting.

Did MC’s friend say how much money MC wanted wired? Was it, say, a couple of hundred to tide her over on vacation, or was it enough to wipe out her entire bank account (although that would be the same amount in my case).

Like so many others, I have been lurking since the beginning of thread part I. My husband thinks I have totally lost my mind since I run to the computer room every few minutes to check the thread - ** oh, sorry, honey, you don’t mind pausing the movie again, do ya  **

This thread is more addictive than ICE CREAM .

*Sure hope it has a happy ending. *

Oh, I’ve been here since day one!
Re: the cell phone records - when I worked as a regular customer service rep. for a cell phone co. (and this was a few years ago) I was able to pull up the city a call originated from no problem. It might take a few days to show up but by now it would be easy. I think I was able to see the last few months on my screen as itemized calls but farther back then that I had to get someone else to do it. I know it’s possible to get more specific locations (by tower) but I was not able to do it myself. We had to know cities though for billing (if it was roaming then it was charged differently, depending on their plan, but I didn’t have to deal with any other companies to get the roaming info.)

The city the call was made from would even show up on their bill, so that’s easy info to see. I had to do this all the time when a customer came in wondering why their bill was so high, and I would look and see that they were in Phoenix or whatever, and have to remind them of a their little trip last month. I doubt a rep would be allowed to give you this info, but the police asked us things like this quite frequently, so maybe they or the detective would be able to find out.

I just hope she turns up soon. The productivity in a least 3 countries has taken a serious downturn since her disappearance.
Mel.

Okay then Watcher.

Concerned Friend - Aida Turturro
Daughter - Janeane Garofalo
Blackjack Dealer - Robert DiNiro in a cameo

er,
Tongue Lady - Piper Laurie
Elmer (Elmer?) - Don Knotts

Thanks. I guess I should have let the shock wear off a little before I posted.

Should the original thread be renamed to “Missing Co-Worker: Part I” just so the companion pieces are archived sorta together?

If MC had to ask whoever she was with if there was a Western Union there, doesn’t that rule out larger cities like Las Vegas? What if she’s in some podunk town in Indiana or something?

BTW, If no one else has already done so, I’ve sent this in to tuba diva The world must join this epic!!
