Missing motorcyclist found alive after nearly 3 days in ditch

:face_with_raised_eyebrow: 10 AM Sunday morning and noshing on a Egg MacMuffin he winds up in a ditch? The article doesn’t mention any rain.

I wonder how long he’s had a motorcycle?

Glad he’s OK. I’d suggest trading the Harley for a 57 Chevy. Based on the photo that wasn’t a big bike.

Reminds me of my Uncle. 3 Weeks after knee surgery he insists on taking his sons Honda for a ride. Makes it 100 feet and crashes. Totally screwed up that knee and had more surgery.

6 weeks after double knee replacement surgery, a cousin of mine went ATV riding with his son-in-law. He crashed and broke his right leg just above the new knee joint. He came thisclose to having his leg amputated. Had to wait 6 months till the break heeled then the knee joint was replaced. Some how the new knee was installed 8 degrees CCW so now he walks pigeon toed.

When my brother was ~20, he hit a deer while riding his motorcycle. He ended up off the road in a ditch with the bike on top of him, unable to free himself. Hours later a passing motorist happened to see him.

The guy managed to get the bike off of him and wanted to call an ambulance. My brother convinced him to drive him home, instead. He broke some ribs and was coughing up blood for a few days, but eventually all was well (except for his helmet which was totally destroyed).

Your family … really not fans of doctors, huh?

In his youth, my brother was kind of reckless but he matured over time. Me, not so much, I’m still reckless.

You need a cow and 2 chickens to pay a doctor. :grinning:

And he didn’t need medical treatment for this?

Needing and getting are two different things. Yikes.

Eventually, it stops. With or without treatment.

One way or the other. Yeesh.

I used to want a Tryke. A local guy had one and it looked so cool parked at the stores.

Thankfully the urge passed before I got hurt driving one. They’re very low to the ground and could be hard for a distracted driver to notice.

When my brother was moped-age in the early 1980s, he wanted one, and was not happy that our parents forbade it.

Until one of his classmates died in a moped wreck. At that point, he understood.

He had a minimum wage job and no health insurance. Medical care wasn’t an option in his mind. Fast forward 45 years, he recently retired without a care in the world.

From the OP article:

“I think we really lucked up this time.”

Maybe substitute an h and an f…

I was riding a 100cc dirt bike when I was 11yo. In a ditch, with snow on the ground.

I hit a culvert and did an end-o, bike flipped, I went over the handle bars. With some odd physics, the spinning rear tire caught my head and the fender got shoved under my helmet. Scalped me and I almost lost an ear too. Almost broke my neck as well. Broke a tooth.

Thankfully my brother was also there on another bike. 130 stitches and three days in the hospital.

50 years later, I do have feeling back in my forehead. But lines in only half my forehead (the uninjured side). I can give quite a scowl.

FYI … we now have an omnibus motorcycle thread over here.
