missing the point

this is one of my firsts threads on tihs baord, but i’d have to do one eventaully.

Me and soem friends went to the mall today to return a broken dreamcast. As we walk into the door, what esle do i see but an entire isle of Grinch merchandise. Now, forgive me if i missed the entire morale of the grinch story, cause i might just be a damn idiot, but wasn;t it very anti- mercandise?

I coulda sworn it said christmass dosen;t come from a store. Maybe they have that as a bumper sticker…
But really, the ammount of merchandise that ame out of that movie is appaling considerign it’s morale. It kinda makes you think who would go out and buy a bunch of the toys, it’s almost hypocritical. Atcually, it is hypocritcal, but sine i have the orignal on DVD, i don;t wanan sound too much like a jerk.

It’s sad, but if there’s money involved, I don’t think many people care much about morals and those types of things. ::sigh:: oh well.

“Maybe Christmas doesn’t come from a store?”

Profit does, however. Oh well, I guess it’s to be expected. Gotta pay the bills…

and note that Geisel (Seuss) didn’t do this merchandising in his lifetime, but it sure popped up after he died…

geisel said he wanted to be “the writer who turned down the most money per word in history.”

no that he is dead, his widow is starting to license stuff so as to introduce a new generation of kids to his work.

(all this per a clipping i have from (i think) time magazine)
personally, i dont think we need a dr. seuss theme park, a dr. seuss musical, or a ‘cat in the hat’ movie to introduce kids to seuss - kids are going to be introduced to seuss by their parents. when characters start popping up everywhere, they start to get cheesy and lame, and i hope that audrey geisel doesnt let that happen. i mean, some stuff is ok, but i fear potential overkill.

but anyway…
