My grandfather has a refund from his nursing home and my brother has a paycheck from a lousy job that he walked out on as a teenager. They’re both under $100, but it’s something!
My state’s website is better though. I put in my family last name in missingmoney and nothing came up for my state, but my state website had over 20 entries.
I got a hit as well from an old auto insurance policy. To be fair, my parents paid the premiums and I’m going to keep the refund, but I also found four hits for them, so hopefully they won’t mind.

I got $1,250.00 via the CA state controller’s office several years ago.
A couple of years ago, I found my friend on the state of Arizona’s site for this, and then another site told me that it was over $8,000 (the state’s site doesn’t give the amount or where it’s from). He told me that if I helped him to get it, he would give me half. Then he never took the appropriate steps to get it. He has to get his credit report or something that has the address that he lived at at the time, and send that plus his driver’s license and SS card to the state and they will send him the money. He is either way lazy or just won’t believe that this isn’t a scam. When this thread surfaced, I again started prodding him to do this. I want my half!
Plus I found another friend $145, so that’s something.
Still haven’t received my $336 yet.
Will post when I do.
My uncle and ex-step mother (both deceased) have entries in Vermont. I have told my father (he is the executor of the uncles will) but he is not interested in pursuing it. I don’t think he would have any right to his ex-wife’s “found money”.
This is pretty great. I didn’t find myself, but found several people I know in this database or in the state databases that are linked!
Got a letter from the State Treasury today. As I scanned through it, one line jumped out at me: “Claim Amount: $0.23”.
Ooo. Twentyfrickingthree cents. So my tax dollars will have to pay for a stamp to mail me less money than the stamp itself is worth.
Then I read further and saw a second notation: “Claim Amount: $137.83”.
Wootywoo! I never got back the utility deposit from that apartment, and the cash has been sitting there wait for me. Thanks much, Rysdad!
Wow. $35.15 from Blue Cross & Blue Shield. Thanks Rysdad.
I contacted the state Commerce dept, and I was told that they were processing checks for claims filed September 17th. Mine was filed Sep 23rd. But she did verify that it was approved, and that it was for $346.90…approx $11 more than was originally listed.
So…soon, I hope.
Turns out the three for my sister are old and have already been claimed but my $501.37 finally came.
$910 on its way to me from the wonderful State of New Jersey. Most was something I expected, but there was some money from Paypal of all things. I guess that was from my eBay days.
And my girlfriend got a little over $150 from New York (that came super quickly).
Woohoo! Party!
Really sholuld set up a Rysdad paypal account.
Instead…if you wish, any donations the USO would be appreciated.
You got it. A check just arrived from the NJ Treasury – $119.84 into the Christmas fund, $25.00 to the USO (hopefully the e-mail address in your profile is still active).
Thanks again for letting us know about this!
Blue Cross has some money belonging to my brother, who died in 2002. Two amounts under $100 and one over $100.
One of my sons was executor of his estate, and he’s gonna check and see how much trouble it would be to make a claim.
Mine shows I am owed money of an undisclosed amount from an undisclosed company, and they have it for an address I didn’t live at. Thing is I have a pretty unique name. Maybe it’s a trap.
My pleasure, and thanks.
…and…
MY CHECK ARRIVED!!! $346.98! Definitely helps to defray some of the Christmas outlay.
So, y’all, keep on checking. It’s your money. Go get it!
Merry Christmas to all.
