Soon we’ll be singing “Ding dong the Mitch is dead!”
As I suggested above, we may be getting into a reverse-Schiavo situation. What I meant was that the Republicans are going to want to pull the plug and the Democrats want him to stay undead brain dead, but alive.
For what it is worth, David Pakman (a progressive) says his sources are telling him that McConnell has been unconscious this whole time:
That would make it even weirder that his wife went to China during this time.
Maybe she was looking for a good recipe for turtle soup?
Agreed, if theirs is (was?) anything approaching a normal marriage, in which both spouses have some level of affection for each other. We don’t really know, but I’ve long suspected that it’s been primarily a political marriage for them both.
Iä Iä McConnell fhtagn
(Hail! Hail! McConnell waits dreaming.)
New campaign slogan for Kentucky Republicans.
He is now Schrodinger’s Senator.
Too desiccated for turtle jerky let alone soup.
On a serious note, he has three children from his first marriage who may be disagreeing about things.
Loser gets involved?
TIL that his first wife, Sherill Redmon, is a feminist scholar, holds a Ph.D. in history, and collaborated with Gloria Steinem on the Voices of Feminism Oral History Project.
The Hill accidentally published an obit. I hope his death is painful.
Do you have a link? I can’t find it.
It’s possible I’ve been tricked, but the claim is it’s been taken down. Screenshot (or deepfake) of the headline: https://cdn.bsky.app/img/feed_thumbnail/plain/did:plc:eckxnrff7wcazhaya525yy42/bafkreiauzyj3uhwwuj2izanec5flz2zvaakzharlljxndmxnimzny3ztzy
Looking up that specific wording of the title, I found this:
I found a nearly-identical AOL article. It’s now a bad link, but the Wayback Machine confirms it existed at some point today:
It loads for a moment then gives an error.
That suggests that there really was such an article briefly today. And that Yahoo link above seems to capture everything that was on The Hill, which honestly isn’t very much.
I have to wonder if brumation has been definitively ruled out.
As a wise woman once said, how could they tell?
Moderating:
Reminder, this is still a P&E thread. I let a dozen turtle and other cracks go, along with several gallows gloating comments, but let’s bring this back to a discussion of the political consequences and calculus of his absence. If you only want to make a crack, the Pit threads are still open, I promise.
I remain convinced that Chao went to China to consolidate financial accounts where she can control them. There’s a high likelihood that McConnell’s Will leaves everything to his children. But while he’s alive/incapacitated, his wife has the legal right to do as she pleases with the family finances. She may even be putting it into the names of her Chinese family members.
