As said above, the Breeders, as far as I remember, only had a single male in the band, the drummer. Pixies only had one female, Kim Deal, so that wouldn’t work either. (The OP wants at least two of each.) Some of the Throwing Muses line-ups qualify.

Under those rules ‘some of the lineups’ a LOT of bands would qualify. The Breeders in a few incarnations would certainly qualify. However, trying to define ‘bands that, at some point or other, had two men and two women’ would be a mug’s game.

A lot of 1970s disco groups featured two or more female singers backed by male musicians. Among them were Chic, who (usually) presented themselves as a five-piece group of 3 guys and 2 lady singers. Silver Convention and Boney M on the other hand had multiple female singers in front of basically anonymous male musicians.

Following Pod, the members of the Breeders returned to their original bands. The Pixies released Bossanova in 1990 and Trompe le Monde in 1991, but by the end of 1991 were becoming less active. Deal, with time off from the Pixies, visited Wiggs in Brighton, and they went into a London studio with Spacemen3/Spiritualized drummer Jon Mattock to record a new song called “Safari”. The other three tracks on what became the Safari EP were recorded in New York with Britt Walford and Tanya Donelly, who was by then planning to form Belly.[12] Kim then asked her sister Kelley Deal to take over on guitar, even though, famously, Kelley did not know how to play guitar. The Pixies became inactive in mid-1992, at which time drummer Jim Macpherson was recruited and the Breeders became a full-time band,[6] opening for Nirvana on their 1992 European tour.[13]

Actually, good point. I was just thinking of the Breeders line-up during their hit “Cannonball.” Later versions of them did have Kim & Kelley plus a couple guys. Shit, I didn’t even know they came out with an album in 2008.
