Mixed male/female groups

The Breeders! (I was going to cite the Pixies and Throwing Muses, but timing and the lack of memorable hits kept me from doing so.)

Steps
The Corrs.

Pink Martini

The Corrs, in hit-making mode, had three women and one man.

I dunno. Looks like just one girl to me.

As a by blow, Belly would count as well with Tonya Donnelly and Gail Greenwood.

As said above, the Breeders, as far as I remember, only had a single male in the band, the drummer. Pixies only had one female, Kim Deal, so that wouldn’t work either. (The OP wants at least two of each.) Some of the Throwing Muses line-ups qualify.

The only one I can think of right now that hasn’t been mentioned yet is Veruca Salt, if you count “Seether” as a hit.

Under those rules ‘some of the lineups’ a LOT of bands would qualify. The Breeders in a few incarnations would certainly qualify. However, trying to define ‘bands that, at some point or other, had two men and two women’ would be a mug’s game.

Human League
A Taste of Honey (“Boogie Oogie Oogie”)

A lot of 1970s disco groups featured two or more female singers backed by male musicians. Among them were Chic, who (usually) presented themselves as a five-piece group of 3 guys and 2 lady singers. Silver Convention and Boney M on the other hand had multiple female singers in front of basically anonymous male musicians.

It got airplay. I’d count 'em.

I only have Wiki to go by here:

Actually, good point. I was just thinking of the Breeders line-up during their hit “Cannonball.” Later versions of them did have Kim & Kelley plus a couple guys. Shit, I didn’t even know they came out with an album in 2008.

Letters to Cleo

I’m really just making a joke about one girl. Kim and Kelley are identical twins.

Bucks Fizz -

Really tempted to put on the Alan Partridge voice and say ‘only the group that ABBA could have been’.

The Go-Betweens after Amanda Brown joined. Couple of top 10 indie hits in UK.

By this definition, the rock band Skillet applies

Crash Test Dummies
Pretenders (Chrissie is the only gal but she counts as at least two  )

At their height, the Incredible String Band had two men and two women.

The Magic Numbers (2/2) had some UK hits and airplay on US adult alternative stations.
Lake Street Dive (2/2) is similar, except for the UK hits part.
