Mixed male/female groups

Think they only had one lady.

The Archies fell just short - two men and one woman, through multitracking, playing three men and two women: Sugar, Sugar - Wikipedia

By Netty Dingo, you are correct. I didn’t even realize there were only three people. Could have sworn I saw them perform where there were a few ladies playing strings and whatnot but it must have been the house band from whatever show it was. Or I was high, or something.

Mocedades.

Having seen Pat Benatar’s shows, I can tell you she has herself and her husband in the front plus two women and a man doing back-up vocals. I believe their drummer is male and I don’t recall who is on bass or keyboards.

I came in to mention this. I don’t really know that much about them, other than they fit the minimum male female numbers that the TC asked for, and that I kinda like their songs (and videos for) Monster and Hero.

Looking them up on wiki, “The band has released nine albums, two receiving Grammy nominations: Collide and Comatose.[1] Awake has been certified Platinum and debuted on No. 2 on the Billboard 200, with Comatose certified Gold by RIAA.” I leave it to others to judge if that qualifies them as having a hit or not.

Brotherhood of Man, one of the many groups Tony Burrows one-hit-wondered with, had the right lineup when “United We Stand” came out.

Martha and the Muffins (of “Echo Beach” fame)

Dan Hicks died this week. He never had a real hit, but “I Scare Myself” was quite well known.

Two girls in the band, The Hot Licks, singing like birds.

You beat me to the B-52’s, so I will nominate the Waitresses, they had two women including a lead singer.
Norwegian-Swedish pop group Aqua, best known for “Barbie Girl”, as well as British pop band S Club 7.

Just to clarify, the women in A Taste of Honey were not just eye candy/singers. Janice-Marie Johnson was a monster bass player, and Hazel Payne was no slouch on guitar. The bass line on Distant was one of the all-time soul classics.

There is the assumption that behind every female-led band, is one or more Svengalis. That may happen on occasion, but definitely not in every case.

Definitely. This clip gives you the idea.

Starland Vocal Band… Afternoon Delight, baby!
