Not if you use a high enough proof alcohol, like Bacardi 151 or Everclear. Although drunk, high and on fire is no way to go through life.
Long term toker, not much of a drinker. Never personally had a problem mixing the two substances, did it many, many times. I wouldn’t recommend trying it for your first time, but if you are familiar with both substances and how they affect you, they can mix well together. Start with light doses of each, and work your way up.
Mixing cocaine or other stimulants with booze, now that can became a problem. Back in the day, I starting drinking regularly for the first time in my life just for the excuse to do ALL the cocaine. That choice led me to a bad place, and I strongly advise not going down that road.
Glad I’m not the only one who thought that.
This is a really good point, which I am QFT.
Must be awfully difficult to keep the weed lit when it’s mixed with alcohol. And if you’re drinking liquor, you could Richard Pryor yourself, no?
On a more serious note, this
sounds wildly inaccurate to me. It’s been a long time since I took Psych 473 (Psychoactive Drugs), but IIRC, alcohol and marijuana act on completely different receptors in the brain and do completely different things. Using both together would NOT enhance the effects of one or the other because they are different effects. Decrease in motor skills is not something I’ve encountered with MJ.
No. MJ is fat-soluble, not alcohol or water soluble. That’s why it stays in your system so long. Your body fat stores it up. It’s not even metabolized the same way because alcohol has to make the first pass through the upper GI tract, and is absorbed into your bloodstream through your digestive system, while MJ in absorbed directly into the bloodstream by way of the lungs. This quoted bit is straight up incorrect propaganda (which is why I included the “according to” source – I bet that org has an agenda) or a horrible misinterpretation of what could be a valid study if I bothered to go read it.
Oh, good lord, just reading this made me start hearing Grateful Dead singing “If my words did glow with the glow of sunshine…”
Yes, in the early 1970’s, the two went together all the time.
I combined weed and alcohol exactly once. I’m other things I took my pants off, had to be dragged back to my room, mistook my mini-fridge for a hat, and give a hanger a blowjob. I’m never doing that again. That weird this is I remember a surprising amount of what I did, but at least it was before YouTube.
Back in my pot smoking youth we always combined both. This was back in the eighties when weed was (allegedly) not as strong as it is now. I always felt like they balanced each other out. My judgement was impaired. What did I know?
I know that when I drink now I sometimes think it would be nice to smoke some weed but I haven’t done it in years.
It’s not just “these days”. It’s been going on for a long time.
Weed and alcohol go together like Oreos and milk.
As perplexing as it may be to you, people like to get buzzed.
If so concerned,** doris89**, why no reply in your own thread?
I drink alcohol occasionally, got heavily drunk once and made a fool of myself, luckily only among my closest of friends. I have seen people acting after getting high. So I can only imagine what alcohol + weed can make a person do. In addition to that serious health issues it can cause. I seriously don’t want anyone, especially someone who is close to me.
gogogophers: Sorry for the delay, got a little busy at home and also I was more into knowing what other has to say about this. Glad to see this develop into good discussion.
I can’t tell you how thankful I am that my 20s came before YouTube and social media.
Well, I hate to be the turd in the punch bowl whose MV, but…
In the 70s I regularly smoked and drank simultaneously. But what we smoked back in those days is nothing like what’s around now. By the mid 80s I smoked very seldom and then stopped. Just circumstances and life, no judgment.
Fast forward to around 2010, and a boyfriend urged me to try it again. I never did care for smoking it much, so he brought 3 tiny cookies his sister had made. I’d had a glass of wine with dinner, that’s it. I ate 2 of the tiny cookies.
Oh. My. God. I’ve never been so sick. I vomited and vomited, about every half hour, “enjoyed” dinner a second time and ended up tasting my morning coffee. I was on the cusp of having the boyfriend take me to the hospital when it finally stopped. A good 4-5 hours of vomiting. Not at all my idea of a good high. Good core workout, though.
We’re all different, for sure.
I always mix weed and alcohol, and it never seemed particularly weird…
What about alcohol and ingested (not smoked) weed? I don’t partake, but I spent the summer of 1995 in Siberia, and weed grew wild in the woods there.
Some of the Russian students told me that people would gather the wild weed and infuse vodka with it, and then chug. Which was dangerous if not done carefully, because the pot would suppress the physical urge to vomit, and if you weren’t careful you could end up with alcohol poisoning, because hey, vomiting can be useful in ridding your system of dangerous substances.
Would this be a real risk, or was it post-Soviet urban legend?
Wow, how strong was that shit?
Was it Cannabis ruderalis? Lower in THC than its cousins sativa and indica, I’ve always wanted to try some. ![]()
No idea - I never observed the practice or engaged in it, just heard about it in the dorm.
Cookies are notoriously difficult to handle/judge/control. They should have flashing warning signs attached.
If nothing is happening, just wait a bit. DO NOT EAT ANOTHER ONE

Probably semi-true, about the russian students… but I doubt it would have many severe effects as ruderalis is extremely weak. Perhaps they were just learning the time honored tradition of NOT throwing up:smack: (Ive heard that a fair amount of russians do die of alcoholic poisoning.
Ruderalis/hemp/sativa grows wild in the midwest US too, fun to see it growing all along the roads where the farmers dont spray. I harvested a bunch once, seeing as how was free…(altho packed with seeds) and brought it to California but everyone wanted their money back!!
As far as mixing weed and alcohol, YMMV as in all things. Herb today is a gazillion times stronger than the average of the 1960’s 70’s 80’s, unless you had really good columbian or thai connections. Edibles alone can send strong minded people to the hospital, let alone all the waxes, oils and other super concentrates.
I know, right?
I’m so glad I didn’t eat the third cookie!!
Although *ruderalis * is a low-THC species, if you have access to a whole field off it, you can make a concentrate. Mmmmmmmmmmm.
