I was having casual chat with my friends last day and topic of discussion wanders off to drugs. I came to realize that people these days mix alcohol with weed to enhance the ecstasy or god knows why. Just out of sheer curiosity, I decided to know more about it. I came across this blog: https://www.ontariobusinesscentral.ca/blog/problem-with-mixing-booze-and-pot/ . It talks about how dangerous the combination can be. I cannot imagine why someone takes these kind of risk. Using weed is risky and weird enough and along with that mixing it with alcohol which is not a healthy drink itself. What do you think about this weird thing people do?
I would never do that.
How odd. I always drank while toking, almost exclusively, and I never argle bargle morple whoosh.
I think it all depends on the particular reaction and experience of the individual with various drugs. I have a very strong tolerance to opiates and alcohol but little experience and virtually no tolerance to weed and I’ve never had a good experience on it. The last time I tried it I had edibles as I hate smoking and I also drank about 8 beers. In the beginning it was sort of fun and I laughed a lot but as the evening wore on I became extremely paranoid and had virtually no proprioception - the sense of where in space my body was and I basically had to lay down on a couch the rest of the night talking to myself and just felt really weird and not myself the following day.
Seems like a lot of hysteria in that article.
Long time smoker, and I enjoy my beers, also. I’ve never experienced anything remotely scary.
YMMV.
Yet another reason to avoid the Devil’s Cabbage.
The only time I ever puked from drinking and had the spins was when I toked and drank together. While I was hugging one of Kent’s grossest toilets and then still waiting for hours for the room to stop spinning, I told myself “never again!”
That being said, I am a total lightweight at both sports and clearly got in over my head that night. Every pothead I know drinks just fine along with their smoking. I had no idea that it was an actual “issue” and am not really convinced from that article that it really is.
If you drink every time you smoke then you know how the whole thing makes you feel.
But the Devil’s Embalming Fluid is OK?
I am going to give you as fair and as good an answer as I can. Everything I say is anecdotal.
When I was young(er) and inexperienced with both alcohol and grass if I was not pretty careful about the dosages in combination then I would puke in fairly short order. That being said I used to puke from alcohol pretty regularly (so I kept trying 'til I learned not to because me am smrt)
That is the sum total of weirdness I have experienced from the combination. Essentially the weed makes me feel drunker. No hallucinations, no freak-outs, no nothing but a stronger high - and possibly, but not necessarily, an earlier night
Most of my friends smoke and drink in concert. I’ve never seen one freak unless there was something else in the mix (usually acid or mushrooms.)
I’m not saying that it is impossible for someone else to abreact more harshly to the combination - chemicals hit different people different ways. For instance I have one friend who doesn’t smoke dope because within ten minutes of toking he goes to sleep. He feels this negatively impacts his beer drinking that evening being unconscious and all.
One ex of mine puked every time that she smoked dope (she almost never drank and never the combination).
You link is from a pro-private business source and is arguing from that position. They do not wish to see the sale of pot taken out of the private sector and placed in the hands of the government agencies. This is clear from the tone and heft of the article.
Take this article with a large grain of salt.
In college, the only time I ever smoked the weed was at parties where I had also been drinking the alcohol. It was for the most part fine. I only had one bad experience, but that’s because I had been drinking a bit too much of the alcohol prior to the smoking of the marijuana. I literally couldn’t move or talk. I was alert, but couldn’t stand up, talk, walk. It made me really, really, really stoned. It was freaky. If I recall correctly, that was likely the last time I smoked weed (or one of the last).
Smoking weed makes me jittery and paranoid, so I like to take that edge off with a couple snorts of The Macallan. Inevitably, I take that a little too far and find myself getting sleepy, so a couple lines of coke bring clarity back. Of course, it’s coke, so the more I see the more I do, and eventually I’m bouncing off the walls. There is nothing worse than coming down off coke clean, so I pop some Xanax or even do a line of H and all is right with the world. Once I’m evened out, it’s nice to smoke a little weed and maybe celebrate my newfound sobriety with a 12 year old whiskey.
So, really, they go nicely together. Don’t believe a bunch of internet propaganda.
I guess its a case of YMMV. Back in the day I combined the two regularly with no noticeable benefits or detriments. Except maybe a few more cuts and minor injuries trying to make various objects into bongs.
It does? Where? We already know that driving under the influence is dangerous. Nothing else mentioned in that article approaches what I would call “dangerous”.
Seems like it would be very difficult to light.
I don’t like the effects of weed/hasj when I’m drunk. Nauseous and sleepy.
The other way around is a much more pleasant experience (getting drunk while high).
The tricky bit is getting the dosage right.
I heard it makes you go insane!
I often smoke weed and drink beer simultaneously!
I actually find, anecdotally, that I drink less when I smoke. And I’ve yet to succumb to reefer madness.
This thread has brought back memories of college in the early ‘70s: tokin’ up, accompanied by quantities of Ripple. Boone’s Farm, or Annie Green Springs.
I think that weed and wine has always been considered just fine by most folks.
Most of the times I’ve toked up in my life, I have also been under the influence of alcohol. It’s probably about 70-30. It hasn’t really made any noticeable difference to me.
It wasn’t in college, but a lot of the '70s for me was Almaden Mountain Red and reefer. I never had any problems, but my understanding is that pot has much higher THC levels than in the past, so that could lead to issues. Plus, it was self limiting because once you’re too far gone to roll a joint you’ve got to stop, and now edibles are popular. You can accidentally over-indulge in edibles because of the delay in taking effect, and there’s a similar problem with alcohol. Combined use of both could give inexperienced users trouble.
