What the hell just happened? I’m still in denial. We did NOT beat Atlanta, we were NOT in the NLCS, we did NOT just win the pennant. Unreal! What a crazy universe this is!
Now… I can’t believe I’m saying this as an AL League fan of the Red Sox… Go, Yankees!!! Want a 13-year rematch! We beat the Pats on a 13-year rematch…
The Giants were underdogs in that series, with the Royals being so hot coming in. And the Royals almost won it in game 7 in the bottom of the 9th when Alex Gordon’s singled to left center. Gordon went to 3rd thanks to Giants’ outfielders errors (Gregor Blanco and Juan Perez both bungled that play). If Gordon was any faster he would have scored to tie the game, with Salvatore Perez due up. With Gordon at 3rd, fortunately for the Giants Madison Bumgarner got Perez to pop up to 3rd and the ball was squeezed by Pablo Sandoval.
Among Giants fans, Gregor Blanco and Juan Perez are known as the Keystone Cops. Here is that play —
They didn’t lead their own league in wins. They appear to be just overmatched by Houston. Joe McCarthy couldn’t have change the result of this series so far.
I was very surprised that Boone brought in Matt Carpenter to pinch hit in that 9th inning. I didn’t understand that rationale. For the Yankee fans here, was that a good move? I mean, I know some here have been critical of some of his decisions.
“The Yankees resorted to desperate measures before the game. Mental skills coach Chad Bohling sent the players a four-minute highlight clip of the Red Sox rallying to win the 2004 ALCS against the Yankees.”
“The idea the current Yankees would draw motivation from seeing their pinstriped predecessors lose four straight was a bit incongruous.”
Maybe they should’ve hired a shrink like the one who delivered pep talks to the New York Knights in “The Natural”.
At least Aaron Boone didn’t blame defeat on the roof being open at Yankee Stadium.
N.Y. Post sportswriters are suggesting that the manager, general manager and owner all be fired.
I hate the Yankees as much as anyone (and the Astros, for that matter) but as a fan of a team that had 21 years without any playoff game, it seems strange to fire a manager who got you to the ALCS.
