MLB: 2022 Postseason

Good for the stock market, good for America.

I wonder how much of an impact it will have that Mariners used only one relief pitcher and the Blue Jays used five.

Hopefully a big one.

Especially since the Mariners have more pitching depth to start with. I love that Big Dumper, who clinched the playoffs for them, also got a 2 run HR in this game. Too fun!

Also, former Mariner Jean Segura, who I am still a fan of, is the one who get the go-ahead score for the Phillies today. It was his first playoff game in his career. Before today, no other current player in MLB has played more games without a playoff appearance. He deserved it!

The Mariners won their first postseason game today since October 20th, 2001. For perspective, Billie Eilish wasn’t born yet the last time the Mariners won in the postseason.

Home teams took a beating today. 3 out of 4 games won by the away team. Odd start to the post-season.

Go, Padres!

Luis Castillo was just incredible for the Mariners, nothing you can do about that.

Momentum is your starting pitcher. Yu Darvish shut the Mets down, Shane Bieber shut the Rays down, Zack Wheeler shut the Cardinals down (though it still took a Cardinals meltdown to blow the lead they got off Jose Alvarado.)

And suddenly those teams are REALLY happy that it’s a 2 out of 3 series, rather than the 1-game it used to be.

Well, the Cardinals aren’t. Under the old system, they wouldn’t be in a Wild Card round at all, they’d be prepping for the NLDS, while the Phillies would already be at the golf course.

So close. I didn’t count on the Cardinals’ amazing pen to melt down like that, and for them to be the ones waking runs in - holy cow that was awesome!

Eight years ago the Giants beat the Pirates on Brandon Crawford’s grand salami. I saw it on TV and still remember hope PNC Park was loud and rocking, everyone there wearing black like the Pirates were, and then… SILENCE. Deafening silence.

That was on 10/01/2014. I’m glad it was only a one-game play-in!

P.S. — as someone who’s been to every home ballpark except Atlanta’s, PNC is the second best. It’s a beautiful park, and if you ever go to it then walk across the Roberto Clemente bridge on your way to/from the game. It’s a treat!

I really liked this park. We took a passenger ferry across the river(s) to get to the park, and walked across the bridge on the way back to the hotel. Great experience.

TBR @ CLE is tied in the 10th, 0-0. Remember, there’s no ghost runner in the postseason.

Traditional baseball. Imagine that.

The Rays and Guardians are now in the 14th inning and still scoreless. A new record for longest AL or NL postseason game with no score. Who will blink first?

They’ve just started the 15th inning. This one’s a nail biter.

That was about as good of an inning of baseball as you could want. Wow - the Rays get guys on the corners with just one out, the Guardians’ 7th reliever of the game works out of the jam, and then they walk off the game (and series!) on a home run by the first batter of the bottom of the 15th.

The best part may be the fact that Oscar Gonzalez’s walk-up music is the theme to SpongeBob SquarePants.

Also, it looks like RickJay is having a great day at the park.

The Mariners came back somewhat but I don’t have a lot of faith that they’ll pull this off.

Eh, I’d say they have a very real chance now…

Who would have thought that it would have been the Mariners relievers been the let down.
Or that small ball can get you from 7 down to take the lead?

To be fair, if they win this’ll only be the 3rd time someone came back down more than 7 runs in the MLB playoffs. So it wasn’t just unlikely for the Ms, it’s unlikely for anyone.
