MLB: 2025 Postseason

That was a once in all history chain of events. Bravo to the umpires for getting it right in real time. Especially the prompt call about the non-catch which ensured everyone on both teams paying attention had a correct understanding of the unfolding scenario.

OTOH, WTF was the batter-runner at first base thinking when he took off for second with the catcher already trotting towards 3rd with the ball?

OK, I missed that play, as I’ve been watching two football games. Gotta see the video!

For some reason the official MLB site only has a 9-second clip. But the MLB Official Reddit Account posted the whole thing here: Reddit - The heart of the internet

Thank you!

Yep, don’t believe I’ve ever seen that DP before. Terrible baserunning by the runner on third. He should be standing on the bag, and as soon as the ball hits the glove, he takes off for home and scores easily.

Teoscar Hernandez has a known history of being a slacker. First in fielding, and now in base-running.

Was that the batter running from first to second at the end of the play? I got the impression that the baserunners on first and second thought the ball was caught and stayed where they were; and it wasn’t until the end when they realized the force was on and they had to try to advance. By then it was too late.

Meanhoo Blake Snell almost pitched a perfect game tonight, just one hit blemishing his line, tho he has one inning to seal the deal.

Wow, Roberts yanks Snell and puts Sasaki in, who gets one out but then walks the 2nd batter and is 3-0 on the third.

Batter takes him off the hook for the moment by whiffing on ball four. But gets a double.

Walk after a sac fly 1st and 3rd go ahead run now on base.

Bases now loaded, two outs, for Turang.

Bases loaded now after a pitching change: note Blake Treinen is a 37 year old AAAA guy who has 40 total major league innings since 2016.

He got that last guy but that was MUCH closer than it should have been. Only 103 pitches for Snell.

Well, crap.

That guy was a flinch away from being hit with bases loaded to tie it up.

But every batter is going to get out of the way, it’s a reflex.

After the eventual winning run scored on a bases-loaded walk in the top of the ninth.

Brewers held the Dodgers to two runs on just 7 hits, but couldn’t muster any offense. One run on two hits won’t get the job done.

Yeah, that took a bit for my brain to unpack. Very cool. This postseason is a doozy.

I was under the impression that the rule is you have to try and avoid being hit if at all possible.

That is indeed what the rule states, but the reality is that unless the batter ‘leans into’ the pitch, if the pitched ball hits the batter, he gets first base.

And that ball was coming right at his leg. If he was a tad slower or moved the wrong way it would have hit him.

This whole postseason is an elaborate prank ginned up by MLB and the gambling websites. Whoever gets in the way will inevitably be run over by the Dodgers and their Yamamotos, Snells, Glasnows and Ohtanis. Outhit by their Ohtanis, Freemans, Betts, and a supporting cast of absurdly clutch supporting players.

Dave Roberts is a rebel, a spanner in the works. He likes an old-school, old-fashioned frantic comeback in the late innings too. That’s why he brough in Treinen yet again. Just to give the appearance of fair play, god bless him. It was theatrical, anyway.

I love how, at the thirty second mark of that video, you can clearly lip-read Frelick saying, “What the fuck just happened?”

Tens of thousands of fans were asking the same question, Sal.
