MLB: 2025 Postseason

And they do it because it gives everyone something to do while the out batter clears the field or batter box, and the next batter takes his position. It helps the infielders stay alert and lets the pitcher settle down for the next batter. Otherwise everyone (including the pitcher) is just standing around getting nervous.

They also said (at least twice) “first playoff win in 24 years” when the meant first home playoff win.

Player will do it even when it’s not an around the horn situation. I’ve seen Jazz Chisholm tag a baserunner and than immediately flip the ball to Volpe, even if it’s the third out. Or an outfielder catching a third out and whizzing a ball to another outfielder. Players just don’t want to keep the ball.

YES! I caught that too! And I think they also said something like, they’ve been waiting to get back to the playoffs since 2001, and then I wondered if I had just hallucinated the 2022 offseason.

(Which is plausible, because an 18-inning game is absurd and surely that was a fever dream.)

Dodgers now lead the series 2 - 0 over the Phillies. They aren’t doing much against the starters, but once they get into their opponents bullpen, all bets are off.

I wonder if there is any reason why many of these playoff games have been so much more higher-scoring than regular season? The Mariners and Tigers are average-to-low scoring, but the Cubs, Blue Jays, etc. - lots more runs than usual.

So if you only consider the higher scoring games, the games are higher scoring?

Here are the scores thus far:

9-3
10-1
5-3
3-2
13-7
3-2
4-3

So 3 high scoring games, and 4 average scoring games.

If you want to get technical, the average number of runs per game in 2025 was 8.9, so there have been 3 games above average and 4 games below average.

Treinen almost cost the game for the Dodgers, and I have no idea why Dave Roberts thinks it’s any good to put him on the mound in the 9th.

Actually, it’s no one anywhere in the world can buy tickets unless you are have a credit card with a home address in one of four specific states. And you can still go, just get someone else to buy the tickets. Anyway, Canadians aren’t going to the USA much now.

This will have nothing to do with the game result. 500 Blue Jays fans instead of 2000 isn’t gonna be noticeable.

And it’s limited to 9 tickets for each game.

My dad and I turned on the Brewers-Cubs game; Milwaukee was down 3-0. Twenty seconds after we turned it on, Andrew Vaughn hit a three-run homer to tie it up, and the Brewers are now up 7-3. Go Brew Crew!

The Brewers’ bullpen only gave up one hit to the Cubs after the second inning, as Milwaukee goes up 2 games to none over Chicago.

I hope the Brewers can pull it off, as their continued failure in the playoffs the last 5+ seasons has kind of hidden how good of a team they have been. They deserve the exposure of an NLCS… where they will likely get rolled by this Dodgers team.

I’m really enjoying the AL series. Toronto thumping the Yankees is perfect, and the Mariners/Tigers series has had two excellent baseball games between two quite enjoyable teams.

As someone who doesn’t watch too much AL regular season baseball the Mariner’s roster is full of surprises. Tons of players I was pretty sure played for other teams: Arozarena (TB), Victor Robles (WAS), Eugenio Suarez (CIN/AZ), Josh Naylor (CLE).

As a Cub fan, I will be rooting for the Dodgers in that series.

Maybe he was bored and wanted to spice things up?

I was enjoying that comeback attempt until it fizzled. It’s easy to say in hindsight, but the bund felt inadvisable in that situation. Stott doesn’t strikeout a lot.

I looked up Castellenos on Statcast Sprint Speed and was surprised to find him at 253rd. I expected he’d be down at the bottom with the catchers. He sure looked slow on the basepaths. Is he playing through an injury?

They should (but won’t) shorten the regular season to 150 games. There should be 3 full days off so that the teams clinching early don’t have a pitching advantage from resting their best starters.

The wild card round should be best of 5, and all the rest of the series best of 7. This puts more emphasis on the playoffs and a little less on their eternally long regular season. Also, it makes team depth a much bigger factor. If you play best of 3, you only need 2 really good starters. Best of seven is a whole different deal in terms of starting depth and bullpen depth.

Why? Getting a bye or clinching early should convey advantages.

Is this it for Aaron “Smeagol” Boone?

Yankees wasted peak Judge like the Angels wasted peak Trout.
