MLB. And here comes the Post Season!

On the TV broadcast? That’s Joe Buck and John Smoltz. If you can get Joe Buck’s voice to “fade into the background,” count yourself lucky.

You’re getting ahead of yourself.

Cubs lead a best-of-seven NLCS 3-2 and have two games left at home. Now, where have I seen that before…

Actually, replace “Cubs” with “Warriors” (who also had the league’s best record) and “NLCS” with “NBA Finals,” and I saw it earlier this year.

(Preview of an upcoming thread: if Cleveland wins the WS, expect either Cleveland’s sports fans as a whole or LeBron & somebody from the Indians to be SI’s Sportsman of the Year - “Simone & Katie Who?”)

The Cubs do not have a small hurdle to overcome to get that last win given who will be opposing them on the mound. I’m not saying they can’t do it. But I’d at least like to see this go to a Game 7. One more good outing from Kershaw ought to really quiet the talk of his postseason pitching woes.

As a Blue Jays fan I must point out that every team that has eliminated Toronto in the playoffs has gone on to won the World Series. It’s not a huge sample, but hey, I kind of like it.

In game 2, Kershaw finally showed up in the postseason as his regular season unbeatable form. Tonight will be fun to watch.

Meet the very conflicted fan who showed up at NLCS Game 2 with a Clayton Kershaw Cubs jersey

Heh…I saw that guy on TV. That will be me if the Dodgers manage to meet the Indians. Though Stubhub prices suggest I’m not likely to be able to afford to attend a game in Cleveland.

I assume you mean Saturday.

LOL. If you need the distinction here explained to you, then you’re probably also trying to work out why some people say that Wins aren’t the best indicator of a pitcher’s quality.

Right. But “Indians” isn’t “Redskins.” It’s not an offensive term.

You’re kidding, right?

I wasn’t aware that the ownership of the Cleveland Indians are Native Americans. If some Christian rich owner named a team the New York Jews, would that be ok?

Yes. That would be hilarious.

And Zygi Wilf isn’t from Scandanavia, the Rooneys have never put a day’s work in at a steel mill, and I bet David Glass isn’t even in line for a throne. Personally, I wouldn’t care the there was a New York Jew team, either. Maybe they could dig up the old ::jew:: smiley we used to have here on the Dope as their logo.
But this is way off topic.

The real hit on the Indians is for their racist caricature of a logo, far worse than that of the Redskins.

Are steel workers and royalty races of people? Even calling vikings a race would be stretching it, but they were formed by an ownership group consisting of Scandinavians.

And there is a good reason there is no :jew: smiley anymore. Because it’s freaking bigoted.

What is it with Jon Lester and first base? I honestly do not recall his fielding being quite this bad when he was a BoSox.

Apparently Lester seems to win games without throwing to bases.

I just don’t understand why he can’t learn to throw to a base.

Is it really that difficult for him?

He’s got the yips. So, since it doesn’t prevent him from winning, it’s better he doesn’t try.

Yes. When I see the indian used as a logo and mascot, I think of the strong effective warriors they were, and any team named Indians try to be like that in their play.

Will some people be offended? Clearly yes. But it doesn’t have to be taken that way. If we named a team with a derogatory ethnic slur name, then of course that is highly offensive and the great majority of people would be up in arms. I think those who dislike the name Indians aren’t that many, they just get the air time from our media who know that when man bites dog, that is news.

Have their been widely-cast surveys that show a significant number of people are offended by the name Indian? And by significant I’m talking greater than 1/3?

I don’t want to derail this thread because we’re here to talk about the postseason, but now that Cleveland has made it to the World Series I think this issue will bubble up.

Washington Redskins? Okay, that may be leaning toward a bad ethnic slur, yes.

Let me get off my soap box. There’s a game tonight and it should be a good one. Kyle Hendricks and Clayton Kershaw. Should be a good one.

I get the impression that about 95% of the people who are offended by Indians/redskins/etc. are liberal white professional victims who like to be offended on behalf of some other group that may or may not actually be offended or want someone to be offended on their behalf.
