Look at Bartolo Colon reaching back into the ol’ bag of tricks!
Bite your tongue!
Well, at least he LIKES the teams he owns…
But okay, perhaps The Most Interesting Man In The World (Jonathan Goldsmith for you trivia buffs) is available.
So when is Bud and the MLB taking over the damn Pirates? Those are owners that need to be forced out. Oh and then maybe the Mets would be next.
I am, in a way, glad that Bud is taking control of the Dodgers. Their financial mismanagement of the team is borderline criminal. Plus Bud probaly got pissed off when it came out in The Divorce that part of McCourt’s financial plan was to cut payroll as much as possible while still fielding a team.
On the other hand, I have been reading a lot of stories about the Expos since yesterday…and that doesn’t make me feel better.
…aaaaaaand who has the best run differential in the National League, as of right now?
No, it’s not the 13-5 Colorado Rockies, or the 11-6 Philadelphia Phillies. It’s the 10-9 St. Louis Cardinals.
Hmm.
Well, when half of your losses are blown saves, that does make your run differential look better. C’mon, Ryan Franklin, get a grip already!
Just curious, is there any reason the Florida Marlins aren’t being televised at home tonight? I put on the Marlins/Rockies game and only a Rockies feed was available. I look online at the Ft. Lauderdale Sun-Sentinel and it confirmed there was no home tv. The Heat aren’t playing tonight.
Another weird rule issue in a Jays game.
Top of the third, Rays at bat, BJ Upton on first, Upton steals second cleanly. But he was ordered back to first base. The home plate umpire stated that the batter, Felipe Lopez, interfered with the catcher, JP Arencibia. On the replay, it’s clear Lopez’s backswing did touch Arencibia’s shoulder, but Lopez did not leave the batter’s box and his swing was a normal swing.
The Rays’ manager was irate, and the Jay announcers agreed with him; that’s not interference, they said. Lopez never left the batter’s box and was just taking his swing. And if it is interference, why isn’t Lopez out?
I thought it was weird, too, so I looked it up and to be honest I’m not sure.
Rule 6.06© states in part:
“If a batter strikes at a ball and misses and swings so hard he carries the bat all the way around and, in the umpire’s judgment, unintentionally hits the catcher or the ball in back of him on the backswing before the catcher has securely held the ball, it shall be called a strike only (not interference). The ball will be dead, however, and no runner shall advance on the play.” (my emphasis)
The thing is, Arencibia had control of the ball when he was hit; Lopez did not interfere with him in CATCHING the ball. Rather, Arencibia caught the ball cleanly, then moved forward into the arc of Lopez’s swing as he was throwing. Rule 6.06 doesn’t state that this specific act constitutes offensive interference, so IMHO, it’s not interference and Upton should not have been sent back to first.
Well, John McDonald’s not generally the guy you expect to get you a walk-off homer. Nice shot!
Adam Russell came on to pitch and threw three pitches, giving up a single and a game-winning home run. Ouch.
Why the Hell would anyone want to take their dog to a ballgame? I’m watching the D-backs/Mets game and they’re doing a dog day at the ballpark. I know the Mets aren’t the only team that does this. Does this really increase attendance? It also makes no sense at a Mets home game where I’d guess at least half of the people are using public transit.
Do people really enjoy trying to watch a game while taking care of a dog?
Yeah they do this at Indians games (at least last season, maybe the season before too) and I can’t imagine getting my dog to the ballpark from the parking garage, then getting her to not freak the fuck out during the game. She might enjoy the walk around the field but that’s about all.
However, there are plenty of dogs who weigh 50# or less who probably have the right disposition to hang out at a ball game. They’re probably the same dogs that enjoy dog festivals and dog parks. I’ve never had one of those dogs so I wouldn’t know how that goes
Nice job waking up today, Twins. We’ll give you this once since the Rangers are taking care of KC and the Indians can stay in first even though you beat us.
Penny had a no hitter going today and the scorekeeper awarded a hit on a bad throw by Inge. Tough to throw one in Detroit.
Who would’ve ever thought Brad Penny and Armando Galarraga would have something in common?
C. C. Sabathia gets his first victory of the season after four previous starts where he pitched well but couldn’t get a win. He certainly got enough run support: the Yanks won 15-3 with 5 homers, including two by Russell Martin and A-Rod’s 22nd grand slam, putting him one behind Gehrig’s all time record.
That’s right Cardinals, take your medicine you biaaatches!

The Yankees are off to a very odd start. Most of the offense is homers, leading both leagues as a team. The pitching has been less than stellar and Jorge has nearly every hit as a homer and usually a key homer. Martin has been great so far. Hopefully Jeter and Posada start hitting for average soon.
Another good start on paper for Dice-K, but way too many pitches that he put right over the plate. Luckily, the Angels weren’t able to take advantage of the mistakes. He’s just too scary to watch. Speaking of scary, Lackey is on the mound today. As with Dice-K, I’ll probably be on edge waiting for the roof to cave in.
Posada’s line is bizarre: 6 homers (and 11 RBIs) out of 9 hits. Unfortunately, since he’s had 55 at bats, that gives him an average of only .154. (He almost never makes it to first base unless he hits it completely out of the park.)
Great win in extras today for the Yanks, after Mo blew the save. Russel Martin has been effing great so far…
