GO ROYALS!!! Four walk-off wins in a row. Naturally that can’t keep on going forever, but the feeling that anything is still possible sure keep me watching the games until the last out (or walk-off) is made. The bullpen is stifling opponents, and our new shortstop looks amazing.
Better than Yuni?? That’s unpossible!
Well Donny Baseball made the first serious mistake (imo) as a manager, and potentially cost the club the game because of it. He absolutely cost them one run and probably a tying run when he didn’t pinch run for our very slow catcher Rod Barajas.
It’s only a single game, but there was no reason not to pinch run for him when we were down by 2 in the ninth.
Lincecum today vs Padres: 7 IP 1 R 3 H 0 BB 13 K
Didn’t lose much in the off-season.
Can you explain this one? Why does it matter if Barajas scored or not? He wasn’t the tying run.
Wow, the Reds are starting to give me that feeling I had when I was 11 years old and watching the Big Red Machine. Although, I guess anyone might get that feeling when you are playing against Houston. But they have scored 32 runs on 39 hits in the last 3 games and have a team OPS of .935.
Toronto wins game, loses shortstop. Not a good trade.
Those were the good ol’ days. Pineda and King Felix looked good in losses, but there offense still looks offensive(not 2010 historically bad, though.) Maybe they just looked bad because they were playing undefeated Texas. After a day off, the M’s get to prove their might against the mighty Indians.
I Know right?? My Dad says he may have to start watching baseball again!
Hey, a Royals fan. Gotta question. Melky was one of my very favorites when he was with the Yankees. Any take on how he’s being accepted so far with the KC fans?
Because if he had advanced rather than getting stuck at second Jamey Carroll (who was stuck a base behind him) would have at least been able to advance to third and might have had a scoring opportunity. He and Carroll both hit doubles than he shortened to singles, and then Furcal hit a sac fly that he did nothing with for the first out.
5-0!!
Woot!
Reds offense is really hitting on all cylinders!
To pile on, it’s because you’re playing Houston and their wonderful fielding and pitching (5 Errors last night! Does anyone know that last time that happened, both in general and to the Astros specifically? EDIT: Found an article that says May 2008 for the Astros. I still can’t seem to make baseball reference spit the data out for me.)
What a horrible time to be a Houston sports fan. It pleases me hugely, though, to know that Drayton McLane is going to take a large paper loss by hanging onto the team these last three years, instead of selling in 2007-08. (He’ll still make a ridiculous amount of money by selling; it’ll just be much less than he would’ve by selling earlier) The sooner that meddling huckster is gone, along with Tal Smith, and that ridiculous Aramark concessions contract that prohibits fans from bringing in any food or water, the better.
And don’t bring up the 2004 and 2005 playoff teams as proof of McLane’s acumen. If Roger Clemens doesn’t decide to leave retirement, play for his hometown, and bring along BFF Andy Pettitte, the Astros don’t sniff the playoffs, much less the World Series. I have a hard time thinking of a more surreal, unprecedented gift to a baseball team than having Clemens/Pettitte basically fall into your lap. /Rant
In more pleasant news, Carlos Lee is actually somewhat hitting the ball, which will make moving him to the AL this year, at least a distant possibility. And I won’t start truly ranting and raving until they lose the series with the Marlins, Cubs, and Padres. Minute Maid Park is still a gorgeous place to catch a ball game. Brett Myers has pleasantly surprised me. Let’s see if he can do as well against the Reds as he did against the Phillies.
As the other Royals fan on the board, I can comment. I think he’s viewed as just another player. Royals fans are pretty loyal to their home-grown talent (or prospects acquired with that talent), and are currently awaiting the development of other guys on the roster (Gordon is looking really good, Escobar is fantastic in the field, Kila isn’t awful, etc.) Free agent signings like Melky and Francoeur are just stop-gap measures to fill out the roster.
But if he keeps hitting like this, that will go a long way. But like I said - it’s all about the farm system. Saturday there was a AAA v. AA game after the Royals’ game, and it was very well attended. People are really more excited about guys that aren’t in the bigs than they are for the FAs they’ll eventually replace.
Note: Not that anyone hates Melky. If there’s any ire to be drawn, it’ll be to Frenchy and the rotation (band name?).
Sleeps with Butterflies:
On the Royals fan message boards that I frequent, his signing was derided because of his low OBP in recent years. However, his strong spring training and early-season performance are winning people over.
Thanks guys! I hope he can hit his stride and be really productive for the Royals.
Wow, the Red Sox just can’t, like, anything. I know it’s early, but yoinks.
Or perhaps the Indians are hot?
I think we’re hot. And the Red Sox are old. hehehe
So an 0-6 start? Wow, this is becoming epic now. This could even get an untouchable manager fired if it keeps up. They’ll probably end up sweeping the Yanks now or something awful but I am going to dream it goes the other way.
Meanwhile, Yanks are up 4-2 heading to the bottom of the 5th. AJ has been OK so far. Liriano had a terrible 4th inning. This is also one of the few games this year they Yanks built a rally instead of a 2 or 3 run homer.
