MLB: April 2022

So Miggy got his 3000th and at home.

Rays gave up two hits (and two runs) in the top of the 10th and now trail 2 to 0.

How bout them Mets? 11-4 coming in to tonight’s game (no spoilers please), but unlike past previous great starts (11-1 in 2018 with Mickey Calloway as manager), success feels sustainable. There is not one player in the lineup or the starting staff that we need to live up to the potential they have shown in the past, they just need to perform at that level. The only concern is the pen.

Oh and DeGrom isn’t even pitching yet.

LGFM!

How’s my man Max Scherzer working out for you guys? You’re going to love him, as all Nats fan do.

this is worrisome, hope its not a regular thing

I saw on Facebook that Nats third baseman Lucius Fox threw up behind the pitcher’s mound two pitches into today’s game against the Giants, and was pulled. Is he all right? Any update on his condition, @dalej42 ?

I would be totally okay with fixing the height of the zone based on just some arbitrary measurement. If that gives taller players an advantage, or whatever, so be it.

I’m going to say this now, because I may not get another chance this season.
The Mariners are in first place in the West, and tied for the best record (10-6) in the A.L.

Two one hit, 10 KO games in a row. 1.80 ERA through 4.

I love how a complete game is now front page news.

I didn’t see this game, is this an example of where the NL DH helped allow the complete game since there was never a need to think about batting for Buehler?

Not so much since it was a shutout.

He likely would have been leading off the top of the 9th, and he was sitting at 98 pitches. It’s certainly possible he’d have been pulled. But they were up by 4, so it wasn’t a critical AB, and Roberts is still answering questions about the Clayton Kershaw perfect game bid less than 2 weeks ago.

Not surprising, but interesting in understanding MLB’s motivations here.

This isn’t a slam against the Yankees, or an attempt to prop up my Red Sox for their actions. I suspect most teams have stolen signs at some point.

My takeaway here is that this is further proof that Rob Manfred needs to be removed.

That seems pretty reasonable at this point. He really doesn’t seem to be helping the game.

Manfred somehow made this situation worse twice. By trying to cover this up, he managed to both underreact at the time, and now make it all seem worse than it actually was.

Yeah, Manfred hasn’t done squat for the game. Probably a lot of teams cheated and the Astros were not the aberration we thought. Hopefully the electronic sign tech will eliminate this. But still, Manfred and MLB could have negotiated in better faith and avoided the lockout. This peewee league ghost runner bullshit should never have happened.

Houston took it to a higher level though, didn’t they? I mean stealing signs has been part of baseball forever but Houston upped the anti on cheating in a few ways I believe. Substances on the fingers for pitchers, new and improved methods of communicating the stolen signs and I thought there was one more piece.

They used the sophisticated “bang on a trash can” technology.

Nope, just the electronics bit. Specifically, relaying messages directly from the video room to hitters.

The Red Sox used the Apple Watches so were considered a tiny bit different. And the Yankees did not use the video room so directly and relayed to the player on 2nd base who then relayed to the hitter.

Apparently the cardinal sin was doing this after the “don’t do these things and THIS time I mean it” from Manfred some time in 2017, which others teams (aside from the Red Sox) have not been caught doing - it’s been reiterated a lot for some reason that the Yankees were admonished for actions committed prior to that warning and not after and the timing means it is somehow materially different, i.e. a tacit admission it had been somewhat widespread but supposedly not after Manfred gave his “stern” warning.

The finger substances has been widespread for years and not particular to the Astros.
