MLB: April 2022

But yeah, real time cheating isn’t the same thing. The Yankees, Red Sox and all the other teams used replay to figure out signs. The Astros used a live camera to relay real time info to hitters in the box. Big difference. Let me emphasize:

BIG DIFFERENCE

An example of the lack of offense this year:

My Brewers are at 12-7 so far, after beating the Pirates tonight, via a one-hitter (a combined effort by five pitchers). They’re currently leading the NL Central.

The team batting average is .211, and their top hitter is backup first baseman Keston Hiura, at .240. Meanwhile, the team ERA is 3.47, and their WHIP is 1.25.

No argument here. Just saying there weren’t ‘other’ things. That was the main thing.

Even more frightening are the Arizona Diamondbacks, with a team batting average of .178. :astonished:

Yet they still managed to win the series against my Dodgers 2-1. :grimacing:

As of right now, the Yanks are first in the AL by a ½ game.
Offense is waking up, even Gallo seems to be waking up.

The Bullpen has been amazing so far. Mike King and Clay Holmes especially standing out. Chapman has had some adventures but is 4 of 4 in save opps and holds a 0.00 ERA.

The Starters have been very good so far except for Cole (our highly paid ace) but in his last start, he looked like Cole again. So hopefully that is also turning. Jonathan Loaisiga, Chad Green & Lucas Luetge have all been disappointing so far despite the bullpen successes.

Disappointments: Gallo (LF) of course. Stanton (DH/RF/LF) to some degree. Gleyber Torres (2b) who seems to be coming around. Josh Donaldson has brought his glove at least, but his bat has been anemic so far.

Isiah Kiner-Falefa started slow but has been really good of late. He admitted the first week he was too nervous.

Judge looks good, Anthony Rizzo has been great with bat and glove. In fact overall the Yanks defense has been really very good. Hicks is off to a good start, though on Paternity leave. Hopefully he doesn’t come back cold.

Nice surprises: Jose Trevino looks great behind the plate and is hitting pretty well. Combined with Kyle Higashioka (who is not hitting) they’ve only allows 3 Stolen Bases. This is a huge improvement over the last few years.

If you look at team stats right now it’s interesting because a team has stats equal to a regular player playing a full season.

So right now the AVERAGE MLB team is like a player who hits .231 with 16 homers and strikes out 154 times. Yuck.

Yeah. The Nats are dead-last in the division right now, on an eight-game losing streak, and not helped by the unusually slow start from Juan Soto, who’s hitting .250 with only 3 home runs and 3 RBIs. That’s right, the only RBIs he’s gotten all year have been from solo home runs.

Maybe putting him second in the order is not a good idea.

Trevor Bauer has been suspended for two seasons under the MLB’s domestic violence policy, with no credit for time previously served. He will miss the rest of the 2022 season, all of '23, and the first part of '24. 324 games in all.

Naturally, he’s appealing the ruling.

Last night, a Marlins hitter was awarded first base on a HBP, even though replay clearly showed the pitch hitting the bat, then ricocheting onto the batter. Manager Davey Martinez did absolutely nothing, no argument, no challenge, no protest. It’s like they’re throwing in the towel already. (The batter turned out to be the winning run).

I love Davey, and I’ll always love him, and I thank him for helping bring us the 2019 World Series championship, but we’re not getting any better, and I think it’s time to part ways with him.

I just watched the first half-inning of the Mariners/Marlins game on MLB TV, and for some reason, Seattle’s feed didn’t have the announcers. Anyone else experiencing this problem?

It’s normal on Root Sports. (Mariner’s network)

Bottom half of the inning just started, and the announcers are on, now. Is this a daily thing on Root Sports just for the top of the 1st, or for every Mariners offensive half-inning, or just every now and then when they have technical screw-ups, or what?

I wasn’t clear. The sound was normal (on) during the first half inning on Root Sports.

Right, I could hear the ambient noise; the crack of the bats, the sound effects, the crowd, but there were no announcers in the top of the first. Normal for Root Sports? We’re in the top of the second now and the announcers are on.

(Uh-oh, Mitch Haniger, only one at-bat into his return, seems to have done something to his right ankle on his first hit, and was pulled from the game.)

(I’m pulling for the Mariners in this game, in case you couldn’t tell, against the Nats’ division-rival Marlins.)

Okay, again I was imprecise. The regular announces were on for the whole first inning. Perfectly normal telecast.

Got’cha. Must have been a problem with MLB TV. I haven’t once adjusted the sound, and I certainly didn’t hear them in the top of the 1st.

Anyway, I hope the Mariners don’t strand these runners.

ETA: They didn’t! He took the whole village!

Trevor is 31. It’ll be tough coming back after being out of the game.

He’ll probably go back to the minors in 24. Try to prove his arm is still good.

Correct me if I am wrong, but doesn’t that also mean the Dodgers aren’t on the hook for his salary during that time?
