Aw, crap.
I’m “watching” the Houston-Texas game on Yahoo MLB GameChannel-- did I see this correctly? One out from a perfect game and he gave up a base hit to Gonzalez?
Yeah. He would have tied the record (I think) for perfect game with the most strikeouts, too. Or broken it with a single K in the 9th.
Grounder straight up the middle. It went through Darvish’s legs.
Damn that sucks.
Darvish seemed to take getting Stiebed pretty well.
The Jays had a dreary, boring opener, but I’m not worried just yet. I’m just happy baseball is back. Finally, winter is over. I’m happier when baseball is around.
The Giants have nine hits through five innings, but miraculously only have one run. Meanwhile, the Dodgers are contemplating bringing in Kershaw as a pinch-hitter to jump-start the offense.
Yeah, they seemed loose. The game’s a lot less stressful when you’ve got good gloves in the field.
And I like that Francona is batting Santana 6th. It will take some pressure off him and hopefully he’ll get off to a good start.
Ubaldo starts tomorrow, and he’s the key. If he can regain some of that 2010 form, the Indians will compete.
Being Stiebed is always better than being Joyced. At least It’s honest.
After two games, the Mariners are 2-0 (against the defending Division Champion A’s) and in sole possession of first place in the AL West They’ve scored 9 runs, with 2 homers from Michael Morse tonight, and the pitching staff has a 0.50 ERA, giving up 1 run on six hits over two games.
Still getting used to the M’s new announcer, Aaron Goldsmith, who they hired to be Dave Niehaus’ permanent replacement. I hope somebody takes him aside and lets him know that “Morse” is not pronounced “Morris”. Actually, I heard a couple players say “Morris” in postgame interviews, which makes me wonder if this is a regional “accent” issue such that some people simply don’t hear any difference between “Morse” and “Morris”.
If you think that’s bad, I have an uncle Maurice who pronounce his name “Morse.”
Michael Morse is a good guy, there’s a lot of people in DC who miss him (although I do think it was the right move for the Nats).
God that day off of baseball after opening day is agony. I’m going to see Gio pitch for the Nats tonight, gonna be cold.
There are a lot of M’s fans glad to have him back! When he was still a prospect in the M’s farm system, he was that guy whose name you would hear all the time from complaining fans on the postgame call-in shows. You know, the “Why isn’t management bringing this guy up?” calls from fans who were convinced that this minor league kid they’d been following was the answer to the team’s woes.
So he finally got called up and, unsurprisingly, wasn’t the powerhouse he’d been in AA & AAA. Then it was the usual, inevitable, “There’s no room for him” thing, and off he went in trade.
Hmm, actually kind of similar to Raul Ibanez. Raul came up from the minors, couldn’t get enough playing time, and got traded away to KC where he turned into a proper major leaguer and then came back to Seattle to be a starting outfielder.
Glad to hear it! Since the new park has roughly coincided with the beginning of fatherhood for me, I’ve only had the chance to attend a few games. So I’m glad to hear that.
It’s something I missed when the O’s moved from Memorial Stadium to Camden Yards - at the old place, it always seemed like knowledgeable conversations about baseball were happening all around me, but at Camden Yards, it seemed like people were there just to hang out, and were talking to each other about whatever, right in the middle of an inning.
One thing I miss though, is buying a cheap ticket to a Nats game and being able to sit anywhere you wanted. Those days are gone, I think.
Yeah, but also gone are the fears the Nats ‘experiment’ would fail and DC would be without baseball again.
I pretty much could sit wherever tonight, but I blame the 45f temperature for keeping the crowd away. Another shut out win for the Nats.
The Rockies took two of three from the Brewers on the road (and the one loss was in extra innings). They have hit eight home runs in the three games and the pitching looks good. I am surprised.
Meet the 2013 Royals, same as the 2012 Royals. Ervin Santana = Jonathan Sanchez, part 2. Hoch in the bullpen = Hoch in the rotation, just for fewer innings.
Ya know, Dodgers, you are going to have to figure out how to beat these guys if you want to justify all that money. Lincecum sucked last night and you still lost.
