At the risk of repeating myself…Salvador Perez hit a solo home run in today’s Royals game, a 4-3 loss to Seattle. He now has hit a home run in five straight games. He has 38 on the season, which, according to ESPN, is an AL record for a catcher.
Carlton Fisk held the record with 37 homers, 33 of which were hit when he was catching the game. I have no idea how the numbers break out for Perez.
And now the Yankees have a two-game losing streak.
I don’t believe in booing ballplayers with the possible exception of when someone is obviously dogging it.
But the thumbs-down crap from Baez and Lindor is just that. Grow up.
Postscript: Lame apologies from the two of them. Baez pulled the “if I offend anybody, we apologize” nonsense. And Lindor now claims “it was a gesture to pick each other up”.
It would be better to go on a long winning streak to spite those ungrateful fans.
I took my daughter to the Jays game tonight, our first game in two years. We had a wonderful game. Great game (5-4, winning run scoring in the eighth) and a friendly, boisterous section of fans on a perfect summer evening. Couldn’t have been nicer.
I meant to post this yesterday but totally forgot to do so. Yesterday was the 50th anniversary of a game in which the Pittsburgh Pirates starting nine consisted of all Black and Latino players. That was the first time that happened in major league history.
damnit i thought the giants were supposed to suck more than usual this year…but we cant get ahead of them …i mean didn’t we just win 9 straight ? of course we lost several in a row before that I now know why tommy Lasorda (and almost of all the managers) used t drink Maalox by the bottle … … everyone was worried about the padres though … .
It’s too late for the Padres, IMO, but I see this as a desperation move. There was so much hype surrounding San Diego coming into the season – I bought into it myself.
This was supposed to be a 7-inning game, first game of a DH. Mets led 9-0 after 3 1/2 innings; Nats came back and tied it with 2 in the bottom of the 7th; Mets won it with a 2-run HR in the top of the ninth. They’ve just started Game 2.
I’m starting to the think that the Gigantes might actually be better than the Dodgers. Am I wrong?
I still can’t believe that Brandon Crawford and Brandon Belt are still playing. They were already well-established when I left the Bay Area back in 2014
Even more brutal was the 3 game sweep by the Jays. Friday night, the A’s were up by 6 runs going into the 8th. The Jays started the 8th with two runs, followed by a grand slam to tie it. The A’s responded with 2 in the 9th (they had five 2 run innings in the game), but the Jay’s came back in the bottom with a singly, a double, and a home run. In the next game the Jays were ahead going into the 8th by, I think 10-3. But they eventually had to bring in their closer in the 9th to hang on 10-8. They then shut them out 8-0 on Sunday. They beat the Yankees in The Bronx this afternoon also 8-0. There is maybe faint hope for them yet. On the other hand, Springer reinjured his knee (a foul off his own kneecap), which does not augur well.
I think it’s inevitable; the wealth of the Bay Area (and the market for fans) has moved away from Oakland and toward the East Bay/South Bay. Off-topic but I was hoping that the Raiders would at least stay in California and possibly strike some sort of deal with Sacramento. Maybe the A’s could do the same. The thinking is, if the A’s want a new stadium, maybe build it in some place like Vacaville or somewhere north along the 680. They’d get East Bay and maybe a bit of Sac-town.
