MLB: August 2021

you forgot we should listen to the Wheaties game of the day/week on the old Wurlitzer (hope there’s teams worth listening to playing) at the corner store as we sip our 5 cent cokes and eat 10 cent hotdogs and bitch about hoover or Roosevelt and don’t forget to damn prohibition while we’re at it :stuck_out_tongue:

I’m only sorry that the Yankees had to start Andrew freaking Heaney, may it be his last. Unfortunately, Gerritt Cole, Jordan Montgomery, Luis Severino, Corey Kluber and Domingo German were unavailable. But they all might soon be.

Ok, end of Field of Dreams game was definitely out of a movie script.

Field of Dreams for Aaron Judge and Tim Anderson, Field of Nightmares for Liam Hendriks and Zack Britton. Is this heaven? No, it’s the harsh real world where every success is a failure for somebody else.

I hope the Field of Dreams game becomes an annual tradition and that other teams get to participate. It was a good show, the only way it would improve would be the subtraction of Joe Buck.

There’s always blowouts.

Offense is up a little. Strikeouts are down a little. There are still WAY too many strikeouts, not enough hits, and not enough basestealing.

The Mets’ bringing in Jeurys Familia in relief with the bases loaded is like handing an arsonist matches and a can of gasoline.

A blown save and then a win. It’ll look good, sort of, on his stat sheet.

Get rid of the nets? BATTING HELMETS?! There’s only so much I’ll accept for the sake of verisimilitude.

Did anyone else notice fake cricket sounds all through the Field of Dreams game (or at least the first couple innings…that’s the only part I watched)? They sounded fake enough to be distracting. I’m not sure if the sound was intentional or if there was some problem with the microphones/audio.

It’s on for next year

Let’s hope it’s not like the NHL winter classic and the same few teams get picked every year.

And the SF Giants continue to post the best record in baseball. In case you haven’t noticed.

I’m with you. I don’t think a Canadian team will ever again host the winter classic. And why play it on Jan 1 when all the bowl games are on?

The NBA owns Christmas Day and the playoff system in college football has made the other bowl games irrelevant

Yeah, but why not make it earlier in December? Before NFL playoffs and competing against only the fleabag NCAA bowls.

I was joking about the batting helmets. I do disagree with the nets down the lines, but that is for another thread.

You see the guy at the game last night, right behind the plate, best seat in the whole house, and he is on his damn cellphone and misses the game winning home run?

Also, cell phones should be confiscated from fans attending baseball games. And Landon for President in '36!!!

I do use my phone at games to look up stats and stuff like that, but definitely not non stop. Too many people at games seem to only care about getting a selfie with their mango margarita.

The number of people at the ballgame taking a selfie is at all times exactly what it should be. They bought the tickets, it’s their call how they choose to enjoy their time at the ballpark.

Provided that you define “modern” as being “after 1922”. The very same Cubs and Phillies played a 26-23 game in 1922, and on that occasion the Cubbies were the winners. Although they came within an extra-base hit of blowing a 26-9 lead, which would have been very Cub.

Oh yeah, I forgot that one!

Weather? There’s not many places that are cold enough to freeze a rink in early December, and if the weather turns and you get a relatively hot day out of nowhere the ice could get bad enough that the game might have to be cancelled.
