I’m planning to watch, but we’ve sunk way to the bottom, haven’t we? From Yankees/White Sox last year, which ended with a walk-off home run, to Cubs/Reds, two pretty godawful teams.
Preferably with a big stick. With a nail in it.
I tried to watch the Field of Dreams game, but I found it extremely inappropriate for FOX to have Joey Votto miked up and be talking to him while he’s trying to play first base, so I turned it off in disgust in the top of the 3rd.
That might be okay in spring training, but not in the regular season.
Yeah, it’s on at the bar here without sound and that’s fine, it looks like the gimmick will end this year. Games in London and I’m sure elsewhere will bring in more $$ and ££ anyway.
I liked it last year, but this year, I was just struck, moreso than last year, by the artificiality and shallowness of the Field of Dreams game. There’s advertisements on the walls, there’s modern music playing after big hits… aside from the uniforms, they’re really not doing anything to make it feel like an old-timey baseball game. (And yes, I know those things were present last year, too.)
I think last year, when we starting to move out of Covid restrictions and the country was at each other’s throats over vaccine and mask mandates was a nice distraction.
Now, everything seems desperate to squeeze the last dollar out of you and the gimmick is tired.
There’s E sports and a game show also on the TVs at the bar, last year, with the White Sox, the sound was on and the bar packed.
This, in a nutshell, is why I’m not nearly as involved with baseball (or football, for that matter) as I used to be.
ESPN did this last week with Mark Canha of the Mets while he was playing left field. I was surprised that was permitted at all. Can’t imagine Buck Showalter (Mets manager) would have been happy about it.
While it was interesting, I can’t say I approved either. I’m a baseball purist and it rubbed me the wrong way.
I liked it in the All-Star Game too, because they’re just having fun and it’s an exhibition game, no big deal. A real game in the regular season that will affect your team’s record does not seem like a time to be fiddling with this.
Normally I would disagree with interviewing a player during a game, but I have to admit I enjoyed listening to Juan Soto last week when he was miked for a game against the Dodgers.
Cristin Coleman, wife of former San Francisco Giants Cy Young winner and World Series champion Tim Lincecum, lost her battle with cancer on June 27, as reported just now by the Giants.
May her memory be for blessing.
WTF?!
The absolute last news I was expecting, I’ve admired Tatis as a player and was hoping he’d return soon.
Well shit. That is very depressing news. It’s going to haunt Tatis forever, of course.
I mean, I wouldn’t call it totally unexpected. He’s shown little consideration for making smart decisions regarding his actions as they relate to his obligations to his team and contract. He’s hell as fun to watch, and I’m a big proponent of the “let them play” philosophy, but good lord he’s an idiot.
Same goes to Chris Sale as well - amazing pitcher, a doofus of the third degree.
Well, his story now is he accidentally ingested it taking ringworm meds. No, really. However, despite this being a GREAT reason to appeal, he’s not appealing.
So because he’s going to be suspended going into next season, does that mean he’s also not eligible for 2023 playoffs since it is PED related?
That explanation is dubious, to put it mildly.
The drug MLB says that testing found (and which Tatis also mentions) is Clostebol, an anabolic steroid. As in, a performance-enhancing drug.
Sometimes topical steroids are used to control inflammation and itching caused by ringworm, but are often discouraged because they may worsen the infection. In any case, those are corticosteroids. I haven’t seen any prescription treatment regimens for ringworm that include anabolic steroids - and you can’t get clostebol over the counter.
It would’ve been marginally more believable if Tatis claimed he unknowingly ingested the drug by taking a “nutritional supplement”, as supplements have been known to contain unlisted ingredients, though athletes by this time should know that you don’t take any supplements without having them vetted thoroughly first.
I know I’ve had a rough week and I’m on beer #4 tonight but if we have another subway series, I’m going to root for the Yankees. Mets fans have shown me that they can be more obnoxious than a Boston sports fan and that takes some doing.
Julio Rodriguez comes back to the Mariners and provides 2 runs to their 6-2 win over Texas. And with that, they take the #1 wild card spot in the AL. (For now.)
Welcome back J-Rod!
Time once again to shame and wake up Mets hitters into scoring runs for their ace pitchers.
A grand total of 2 runs so far in 16 innings for Scherzer and deGrom.
