MLB: July 2022

Why Cabrera? He still has another season on his contract.

I’d be really surprised to see him on the field next year. Tigers will buy him out.

Just got this as part of an email. I get that MLB is designed to make every single penny, but this seems more like satire:

The results of the 2022 Chevrolet MLB All-Star Ballot have been announced. Thanks to your votes, Catcher Willson Contreras has been selected to start the 2022 MLB All-Star Game presented by Mastercard for the National League!

The remainder of the All-Star rosters, including pitchers and reserves, will be announced at 4:30 p.m. CT on Sunday, July 10 during the 2022 Chevrolet MLB All-Star Selection Show on ESPN

I’m guessing there’s a link, because all the starters have been announced.

O’s have won 7 straight. Better break them up!

But seriously, they were widely predicted to be the worst team in baseball and, granted, they may not be anything resembling “good,” but they’re not terrible. June was their first winning month in 5 years (14-12) and they are currently only 2 games under .500. Rutschman is starting to settle in and appears to be as good as advertised. They just might have the start of something. Might.

Baltimore is only 3 games out of the final wild-card slot. Does the team still trade assets like Trey Mancini for prospects or make a real try for the playoffs?

Interesting question. I’m usually of the mind that having your ceiling at “first-round fodder” is not helpful long-term, and people always give me shit about that, even when I’m talking about teams with an old roster, but I suppose for a young team it could be a big morale boost.

Spent the afternoon at Polar Park, watching the Scranton-Wilkes Barre Yankees edge out the Worcester Red Sox by one run (aided by a Sox runner who managed to get picked off first with the bases loaded!). Then came home and watch the Bosox edge out the Big Boy Yanks by the same margin. So, I guess we’re even on the day.

Nice tradeoff. :hugs:

Cubs at Dodgers. Rubber game of the series.

5 - 3 Cubs

At the end of the 1st inning. This could get ugly quickly.

It is an absolutely gorgeous day here in Chicago so I’ve been over by the lake ignoring baseball, but I think I’ll find me a sports bar and enjoy the show.

I think this is Urias’ shortest start…ever. 2 innings and yanked.

And they’re doing this with a team that is collectively making about $10 million less than Max Scherzer’s salary.

Legacy All-Star Albert Pujols hit his first home run since May 22 today. More noteworthy, it was his 1,377th extra base hit, which ties him with Stan Musial for third place in the MLB record books.

In another statistic, Pujols hit into his 420th double-play. He’s the all-time leader in that category, 70 ahead of second-place Cal Ripken, Jr.

wow it did… dodgers won 11-9 with the cubs making 2 errors

The one thing that could derail the Yankees is taking place: the return of Chapman. Release him already, he’ll never be more than a shadow of his former self.

For all the naysayers who thought the Yankees should have kept Sanchez, look at the year Trevino is having and now an All-Star to boot. I’ve seen Trevino come up with many a key hit where Sanchez would more than likely would not have.

All those All Stars didn’t help the Jays this past weekend. 4 game sweep by the Mariners, the last 2 on home runs by recent pickup Carlos Santana. Best record in MLB the past 20 games (17-3) and currently in the last playoff spot after being 10 games out 2 weeks ago. The only All Star is a young man that just goes by Julio.

They’re in free fall at this point. The team is a few losses away from the end of Charlie Montoyo’s managing career.

If I was running the team, he’d be fired later this week, along with the hitting coach. The team lacks discipline and focus. Not today - he and much of the rest of the team are attending the funeral of Mark Budzinski’s teenaged daughter. Major, shocking changes are needed after that.

Well, if you want to keep winning, you need to listen to how the rhythm goes.

It’s the week leading up to the All-Star Game, and the concessions workers of Dodger Stadium, represented by the Unite Here Local 11 union, is threatening a strike.
