MLB: July 2022

In 13 innings since coming off the IL, Scherzer has allowed 1ER, no walks, 5 hits, with 20 strikeouts. The first 6 innings were against the Reds, tonight the Braves. Mets take the first game of the series.

That is what $130 million looks like. And DeGrom will be back soon. Maybe before the break, maybe just after.

Love him as I loved him, and there will be joy.

In the top of the 5th inning between the Pittsburgh Pirates and the Miami Marlins, on the Pirates feed, someone from Pittsburgh’s staff brought the boys in the announcing booth several different kinds of French fries served in Miami’s stadium. What a neat segment. Apparently this isn’t the first such segment Pittsburgh has done; the guy said, “How come you [meaning one of the guys] never eat anything I get you on television?”

In a Pittsburgh-Miami game, I can completely understand how a segment on ballpark French fries would be make the highlight reel.

And there goes Montoyo

Dear Dayton Moore and JJ Piccolo,

It is possible that people on your staff are both incredibly good people and incredibly bad at their jobs. If you love Cal Eldred like a brother, then don’t let him languish in absolute failure like this, and find somewhere else to put him. (see: Montoyo, Charlie)

Ouch, the Royals are going to be hurt with a lot of non vaccinated players to go against Toronto. Here’s a time for Toronto to beat up on a team while they are already down.

And just when the Royals were on a major roll. They took 3 of 4 over Detroit and 2 of 3 over Cleveland. They’ve won 6 out the last 10, pulling themselves to within 18 games of .500.

(As a Royals fan, you must cheer even the smallest measure of success.)

I don’t know how we got into the “Orioles win 10 straight games, are 2 games out of the wild card” timeline, but I’m here for it.

Also, baseball is broken if every team in a division makes it into the playoffs.

As there are only 3 wildcard spots and each division has 5 teams, this is impossible.

Gah. I was looking at the standings, and the AL wild card race listed 4 teams, since there’s a 3-way tie for the 3rd spot.

In the NFL it is theoretically possible as there are now 3 wildcards from each conference and each division has only 4 teams.

The Mariners have now won 10 games in a row.

We’ll see if this is a fluke or if all this talent they’ve been fostering is actually going to pay off for once.

Longest playoff drought of any sports team in any major American professional spots league.

I wasn’t going to risk jinxing it, but since you have gone and said it. I’m really having fun watching this team now. The last game they lost was a game I attended. They are getting timely hitting, good pitching, and they’re playing teams that are making mistakes. The local radio guys are thanking Mike Trout for igniting this run.

I’m watching the Colorado feed of Rockies/Padres, and the Padres have just walked three times in a row, two of them, walking in runs.

The score is now 5-2, Colorado. Or, as the chyron says, “2 More Runs Until We Get TACOS!”

Will they get tacos? Can I get tacos? Probably not. I live in Virginia.

Andrew Benintendi of the Royals is having a career year. He’s batting .317 and has 102 hits for a last-place team, while playing stellar defense in left field. As such, there is a whole lot of interest in him from contending teams.

But he’s also unvaccinated and isn’t with the team as they play a weekend series in Toronto. Unsurprisingly, both the Blue Jays and Yankees, who had been interested in acquiring him, have suddenly lost all interest.

Dumbass.

Rockies:

WE

GET

TACOS!

Went to the local sportsbar to get some dinner last night. As we sat down, the Dodgers at St Louis were just starting the seventh inning and were down 0-6. They proceeded to come back and win 7-6 in the final three innings. Must’ve been brutal for Cardinal fans.

The Royals have really managed to take being disappointed in them to a whole new level. 10 unvaxxed morons is a lot of morons on one team, and it’s a clear lack of leadership on all levels that led to it. I get the feeling Sherman is going to clean house, hopefully it’s soon. The very thin silver lining is that Cal Eldred is also unvaxxed and can’t inflict his “coaching” on the pitchers.

And, of course, the Royals win tonight in Toronto, 3-1. Nate Eaton, brought up from Omaha because of the unvaxxed a-holes, hit a home run in the ninth for his first major league hit.
