Baseball-Reference does have asg box scores, FWIW.
Angels outfielder Mike Trout, who’s been out since April after having surgery for a torn knee meniscus, began a minor-league rehab stint today, and only lasted two innings before being pulled from the game with soreness in that knee.
The Angels are currently listing his status as “day-to-day.”
In more injury news: Brewers All-Star outfielder Christian Yelich was pulled from last night’s game against the Cubs with lower back soreness, and placed on the IL today. Yelich missed the better part of a month earlier this year with a similar injury, and though he’s played very well this year when healthy, he’d been in a slump (1 out of his last 19). He was the NL MVP in 2018, but has struggled for the past few seasons.
Brewers manager Pat Murphy called the injury “concerning,” and Yelich himself said:
It’s a shame. Yelich’s back problems may have derailed a hall-of-fame worthy career.
The Padres’ Dylan Cease threw a no-hitter against my Nationals today, only the second in franchise history.
I think it fair to say there is a very high chance we’ve seen Mike Trout accomplish 90 percent or more of everything he ever will accomplish.
It surely does feel that way.
On a smaller scale, I worry about the same for Yelich, who is the same age.
Fire sale in Tampa, this weekend only!
Looking like there’ll be a big one going on in Chicago over the next few days, as well. It’s been widely believed for months that the terrible White Sox will deal away their better players, but Cubs President Jed Hoyer indicated, earlier this week, that they are already looking beyond 2024 for the team.
An MRI on Trout’s sore knee revealed no additional injury; his doctors indicate that he’s dealing with scar tissue and inflammation related to the earlier surgery. The Angels expect that he’ll be able to resume his rehab assignment shortly.
Any thoughts on the Yankees-Marlin trade?
Yanks got Jazz Chisholm Jr. with 2 more years of control after this year. Maybe the 2B plan for next year as Gleyber Torres will be gone?
Marlins got: 2B/SS Jared Serna (NYY No. 19 prospect), C Agustin Ramirez (NYY No. 20 prospect), SS Abrahan Ramirez
I think Jazz is a great fit for Yankee Stadium. I wish the Royals had gotten him - they need serious OF help. Speaking of which, I saw an amazing stat on Twitter today.
Most RBI at home this season (AL only):
- KC Vinnie Pasquantino (50)
- KC Salvador Perez (42)
- KC Bobby Witt Jr. (41)
- NYY Aaron Judge (40)
- CLE José Ramírez (39)
KC has had some bad stretches, and their offense will just shut down for games at a time - but they have awesome offensive pieces, but also some incredible holes.
Toronto has shed Danny Jansen, Yimi Garcia, and Nate Pearson for a variety of B-level prospects, which honestly isn’t a bad haul for two two-month rentals and a guy who’s always hurt.
They have not gone nearly far enough but the Jansen trade serves to illustrate the shortsightedness of the team’s trading away of Gabriel Moreno. There is no major league catcher in the organization to replace Jansen. By default the backup is now Brian Serven, who may be a very nice guy but is in no way an MLB calibre ballplayer, and the starter is himself only barely a replacement level player. The team has no actual catching prospects, not a single one, at any level. All their catchers are just roster-filler journeymen.
Bobby Witt is well past just an offensive piece. He is a generational talent. We’re talking George Brett potential.
Tampa Bay has traded Isaac Paredes to the Chicago Cubs for Christopher Morel, with minor leaguers being involved, too. The announcement was just made during the Cubs/Royals game.
I think it’s a smart value move by the club for the future. He’s under control through 2027. The reliever we just picked up is good though 2026. I would be shocked if we get anybody without at least 2-3 years to go on their contract. No rent-a-player should even been under consideration (I’m looking at you, Blake Snell).
Our season is, for all practical purposes, over. We’re 51-56, 10 games out of the Division race and 5 games out of the Wild Card. If we pulled an Oakland A’s 20 in a row win streak out of our ass, maybe we could try to claw our way out, but there’s no way any of that happens with this pitching staff.
Justin Turner hit a single in his first at bat today, then was pulled from the game and traded to Seattle.
#99 got his 99th RBI last night as he hit Home Runs 38 & 39.
Aaron Judge is having a nice run right now. Nothing historic, but pretty great.
Yanks are still in second to Baltimore. .5 games out as of right now. Yanks are third in the AL as O’s and Yanks trail Cleveland by 1.5 & 2 games respectively.
Indeed he is, and he appears to be on the way to the AL MVP.
Second place in the MVP race is Bobby Witt, Jr. of the Royals. After his 4 for 5 outing last night, he’s batting .347. He’s on an 11-game hitting streak, in which he’s hitting .545. He leads the majors in hits with 148.
Or, not. ![]()
