MLB-July 2024

Bobby Witt, Jr. of the Royals just finished a fairly decent July.

He had one hitless game.
His batting average was .489.
His on base percentage was .520.
His slugging average was .833.
He had 44 hits, including 8 doubles, 1 triple, and 7 homers.
He scored 24 runs and had 22 ribbies.

Oh, and he finished second in the home run contest at the All-Star game.

Even worse (but not unexpected) news for Mike Trout today: he suffered a second tear to his knee meniscus, and will miss the rest of this season.

Damn, and the Mariners didn’t get him before the trade deadline. He would have been a nice pick up.

If only he wasn’t so fiercely loyal to such a shit team. Trout is going to retire having won absolutely nothing. His faith in the Angels has been criminally misplaced. It’s been crystal clear for quite some time the Angels are totally incapable of building a decent team around him.

Yeah, I just looked up the Angels record with him on the roster. His first full season was 2012. They finished above .500 that season but did not make the playoffs. Two years later, in 2014, they were the best team in the AL but got swept by the Royals in the LDS. In 2015 they were again above .500 but didn’t make the playoffs. They haven’t been above .500 since.

ETA: It’s time for a new thread. Paging @dalej42!

He’s only got 6 years and $205 million left on his guaranteed contract, so that should be interesting

One of the best players of his generation, and he only has 15 career playoff plate appearances. :frowning:

He was AL MVP in 2014, but had an extremely forgettable LDS against the Royals. 15 plate appearances, 3 walks, and just 1 hit, a solo home run in game 3. He struck out twice, both of which ended games.
